Scientific evidence suggests that Otters have been on Earth from the past 23 million years and present day’s Otter evolved about 7 millions years ago. Otters have gone through many adaptations and scientists believe that Otters were once only land animals but they moved into water to save themselves from predators and to get away from what was happening around them. Experts also believe that limited resources on land could be another reason which moved them into waters for …show more content…
Relying on fossil records scientists have found evolutionary path of Polar Bears which is over millennia and shows they are a subspecies of brown bear. About 200,0000 years ago when arctic ocean was completely frozen and covered with glaciers a population of brown bears was wandering in search of food. A part of that population is likely to split off and got isolated because of massive glaciers, most were died because of harsh climatic conditions but who survived they developed specializations over the years for inhabiting the harsh Arctic environment. During thousands of years of evolutionary change they adapted a thick white coat color which camouflage them in snow and gives them hunting advantage. Their thick hair and a layer of fats in their bodies serve the purpose of insulation. Their molar teeth are also significantly different from those of brown bears. The name polar bear was actually given because of their ability to swim. Polar bear have longer necks as compare to other bears to enable their heads to remain above the water while swimming. In the beginning they were hunting seal carcasses but gradually they started to hunt seals by waiting at the edge of water when seals come out of water to breath. It is believed to be an important evolutionary step for adaptation. Evolutionary forces are acting again in the form of global warming and species’s down fall is
