With the release of Pokemon Go, a mobile app developed by Niantic, there has been a massive Pokemon fanbase that has emerged. If you’re not aware of what Pokemon Go is then you must not be using internet, because it’s everywhere. Pokemon Go lets you do what you’ve always wanted to do in your childhood, catch pokemon in the real world by utilizing your device’s camera to create an augmented reality!

Pokemon first came to be in 1995 with its first game releasing in 1996 kick starting the revolutionary franchise. Pokemon Go currently only consists of the 151 Pokemon from the games Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow, named Generation 1 in the Pokemon fanbase. There have been rumors that Pokemon from later generations will be introduced into Pokemon

There has been a massive rise of news on Pokemon Go since it’s release. However, I will only be covering a few topics I personally found interesting.

Within only a week of the app’s launch for New Zealand, Australia, and United States the app snagged Nintendo a 25 percent rise in share purchases. Nintendo’s current market cap is now around a shocking $28 billion. It’s no shock that Nintendo has had major success for Pokemon Go’s launch, but just how big is Pokemon Go currently? Pokemon Go is currently bigger than the famous dating app Tinder according to SimilarWeb. Not only has Pokemon Go surpassed Tinder, but it’s also being used more than other famous apps such as Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, and even Twitter!

Pokemon Go has not only taken over the mobile world, but it’s even making an impact on the music world. Spotify, a popular app used for streaming music, reported that streams of Pokemon songs have tripled in just a week, with the top one being the original Pokemon Theme Song. Nearly 200,000 playlists have been made the past week for these Pokemon songs.
