Pokemon Go Observation

For my observation of how people communicate, I sat down in the food court of the Potomac Mills Mall. What i came to find out is that many people use a certain way of speaking with others, yet it seemed similar to the next person. For example, a couple of teens standing in the "Sbarro" line were conversing about the new Pokemon Go app. The tone in those teens was full of excitement, yet their hand gestures were calm and normal. There attention was fully embedded in the app without taking a moment to look up and notice that the line was moving until the person behind them aggressively mentioned it. Speaking about the person behind them, she looked out of sort, like something was bothering her, as if her day couldn't get any worse. Her body language

Task of Understanding One Another “Why aren’t you listening to me?” that is what I would ask my dad when I would not see him engaged in what I had to say. However he never failed to repeat exactly what I told him. Most women need eye contact to show that the listener is absorbed in the conversation. That is just one of the many examples that are presented as what we naturally expect a certain way to act or listen when one is present.…

Understand hierarchies. When communicating with a different culture, there may be unwritten rules about social hierarchy that you are not used to.[4][5] For instance, you may come from a culture where men and women are expected to communicate equally with each other, but may have to interact with someone from a culture where men may do more talking in mixed company. Similarly, you may be communicating with someone who expects that a younger person should let an older person do most of the talking, while you expect people across age groups to communicate equally. Be respectful and tolerant.…

The first step of communication presented during Michelle Winner’s interaction with Casey is that we must think about the people we are going to communicate with. This means that we must consider the perspectives of our communicative partners. For example, before talking to Casey Michelle considered that Casey is a high school student who is attending the same conference as her. Secondly, Michelle said that we must establish our physical presence. This means that we must turn our body toward the person with whom we are communicating with and make sure that we are within an appropriate proximity of them.…

To conclude this report, the analysis already shows that Pokemon Go has the power to change the meaning of places, the power shift between people in BSB where the Pokestops and Pokegyms was, as well as creating different types of cultures that was practised by Pokemon Go players, regardless of their age, gender, occupations and many more. Nevertheless, By referring to Lefebvre’s conceptual triad; - perceived space(evoke meaning of place through our senses), conceived space(evoke meaning of a place through our mind) and lived space(evoke meaning of place through our livelihood),spaces can be temporal as its function and meaning ebbs and flow in the place based on what dominating community are at a particular space and time. As the BSB is…

A major social concern has just been identified. With the release of Pokemon Go people are complaining about the increase meeting of people and gatherings as they join in a united effort and the same interest as each other and the ability to make new friends and engage in new ways unlike previous time when they would be inside playing other games. The game has brought communities together and have allowed new friendships but many oppose this idea. Why? Because there is no idea why this is to be to dislike.…

Communication is a key aspect to our survival on this planet. If we didn’t communicate, we wouldn’t be able to do much in any aspects of our lives. We use verbal communication to actually say what we mean, but we also use nonverbal communication. That is like body language, facial expression, gestures and eye contact. When someone is talking to you, you should make sure you are analyzing all of these and also listening to what they are saying.…

For the first major assignment for Professor Julia Green’s Communication 211 for Spring 2016, I partnered with classmates Lori Rainey and Sarah Beattie to “analyze how the different forms of communication yield different results when it comes to communicating” (Green, Week 4 - Major Assignment 1: Blog). By going through the exercises, I have reconfirmed that the form of online communication best suited to me is email versus social media such as Facebook, or texting. Unlike some people, I find texts are more difficult to respond to for many reasons, including the limitation of the touch-screen keypads, as well as the synchronicity of the communication, depending on the user’s attention to their phone. As an example, I routinely forget my cell…

The interaction that I observed took place at a car dealership around ten o’clock in the morning on a weekday. I was there waiting for my car to be serviced, along with other individuals in the waiting area. The atmosphere of the environment was like most waiting rooms, people looking down at their phones and watching the television to make the time pass. The ‘Price is Right’ was on a very loud volume setting. This actually made people talk louder than they usual would, making the observation easy to distinguish because the individuals had to either yell or repeat themselves to get their communication across.…

The community I current belong to follows this logic when communicating between themselves and with others. The community of college roommates communicates with one another using technology of our everyday lives. We use our laptops, cell phones, tablets, etc. to use social media, text, create schedules, and flyers in order to communicate with one another. As a college roommate I can honestly say that communication is impersonal and distant, especially in difficult situation. Even though we are less likely to put a pen to paper or actually talk to each other, my community still uses basic modes and genres communicate in a way that works for…

Human beings have always used Mother Nature as an object for healing. Before there was synthetic medication, like penicillin, people turned to the natural world for antidotes to remedy what was considered to be abnormal. The world of medicine was split into two as synthetic drugs emerged; one was western medicine, where synthetic drugs are highly utilized, and the other was eastern medicine, where natural remedies still dominate. Treatments for mental illnesses today are mostly dealt with by using the western medicine approach, but what if nature itself is a cure or a factor that can alleviate the symptoms of these illnesses? Before the urbanization of the world, exposure to nature was a daily occurrence for people. As the years…

Similarities and differences between public speaking and other means of communication Communication is a process of exchanging information, ideas, thoughts, feelings, and emotions through speech, signals, writing, or observation. In this process, the individual communicator tries to convey a message and transmits stimuli to modify and influence an audience’s attitudes. Communication plays a vital role in our lives because we communicate everyday with different people in different ways. However, communication, which is characterized by the use of language, takes four forms which are dyadic, small group, mass media, and public speaking (O’Hair et al, 2010:5). The first form is dyadic which happens between two people such as a conversation.…
