Write about the pseudoscience example that you researched. Colon cleansing claims to flush out poison toxins that linger in the body from the food we eat and the environment we live in (EverydayHealth.com, 2015). Those that believe in colon cleansing think the method of removing those toxins will make them feel better. The process of colon cleansing is using a tube that is inserted into the colon and up to 20 gallons of fluid is pushed into or through the colon. The fluid could contain enzymes and probiotics. Once the solution has been released into the colon the patient will then release the fluid with the unwanted toxins in a normal bowel passing (EverydayHealth.com, 2015).
Explain why some people believe the claims of the pseudoscience to be true. Explain why some people suspend their critical thinking about the pseudoscience and become captivated by it. Colon cleansing is a practice that is used by doctors to prepare for certain medical procedures (Osteopathic.org, 2015). The people that feel the need to try colon cleansing probably suffer from one of the symptoms that cleansing claims to treat ('Web alert', 2006).
