It was the first time I ever heard women talk about their own stories and people enthusiastically responded. When they were on stage, they did not seem like burden to everyone, but someone we should feel honored to hear from. In many ways spoken word and slam taught me to value my own story, my perspective, and the space I occupy in the world. I began to write spoken word to help me process the changes that I was going through, and the emotions that came along with new beginnings, greater self awareness, and the obstacles I faced. The first performance I submitted I wrote this past summer and it is titled Glass Memories. This poem is about the intersections of my identity as a daughter and a Queer woman.
