As the person starts to mature their power is evolving in the darkest parts of their soul. In Poetry Is Not A Luxury, Audre Lorde explains “ These places of possibility within ourselves are dark due to the fact that they are ancient and hidden; they have survived and grown strong through darkness. As Jean Michel Basquiat was trying to discover his own power many people judged him. Most people just saw his artwork as childish because it was different from what was popular at the time. With all this criticism Jean Michel Basquiat was not sure of what to do with his power. He began to limit his creativity and his power began to diminish. But in the end Jean Michel Basquiat used his power to spread positivity. In the poem Genius Child Langston Hughes describes “ This is a song for the genius child. Sing it softly, for the song is wild. Sing it softly as ever you can- Lest the song get out of hand. Nobody loves a genius child.” What Langston Hughes was explaining was that a person who is talented and uses their power is a genius. He explains that the person is using all their power but due to people not understanding they judge and criticize the person, therefore showing that nobody loves or understands this
