In Poe’s short story, “The Masque of the Red Death, the author shows how a leader can mislead his country by being self-centered. For instance, the Prince in this story gives selective attention to an individual group in his kingdom. By this, he provides a lavish party for those whom he deems fit to be in his presence. Without giving thought to the needs of the lower class, he throws a party for several months with this special upper class group. Meanwhile, outside of the castles gates many lower class people’s lives are at stake, yet the prince shows no concern. This reveals the how one can be so involved with living a self-center life style that they tend to neglect those who are important to them. As the story continues, within the walls
