Never Give up on your Dreams

Determination plays a imperative part in perusing our goals and dreams. Without determination, we may give up on our dreams, but they will never give up on us.

In the poem “Harlem,” Langston Hughes talks about the tragedy that postponed dreams can cause in a persons life. The poem suggests deferred dreams may “dry up like a raisin in the sun”, representing that abandoned dreams left alone can become small and withered. Another simile in the poem states that ignored dreams may “fester like a sore”, impling deferred dreams won’t heal or go away on their own. After I showed my parents how serious I was, they took me shopping to a craft store and allowed me buy more supplies.

However, if you do not have enough determination, you will often feel that your goal or dream is too difficult to achieve and give up at the first first obstacle you run into. There are thousands of people around the world who have great talent and ability and yet because they lack the determination to strike out, they sadly will achieve little. If you are persistent to overcome the obstacles to achieve a worthwhile goal, you will reap the rewards.

After watching an artist paint with toothpicks in Mexico, I went home and tried it with the paint we had. From there I started watching you tube videos and created some oil paintings. My parents saw my potential and put me in oil painting lessons. They probably would not have paid for the lessons otherwise as they are expensive. Now they are quite thrilled with my paintings and have them hung on their walls. I am a bit of a critic and think my paintings could be better, but am improving. My mom has shown my paintings to an art gallery and they have offered to sell them, but she does not want part with them. If I ever have enough time I hope to paint more and put them in an art

Even though everyone has a dream people generally find a reason to not pursue it. The use of imagery in Harlem intensifies the readers understanding of the consequences. For example, in lines four where Hughes places the image of a festering sore, or line six where the images of rotten meat can bring a reader back to a time he or she once smelled something awful. Even though Langston Hughes expressed the consequences of procrastinating ones dreams and goals Robert Frost provides a clearer understanding to the reader the importance of following ones dreams.
