How do poets approach the universal theme? In "the lesson of the moth" by Julio Noboa and "Identity" by Don Marquis, the poets approach the same universal theme of beauty. However both poets approach the universal theme different and similarly. In "the lesson of the moth" the author,Don Marquis, expresses the universal theme of beauty by using the characters that he created in his story. One example is that the character, which is a moth, wanted to burn himself just to experience the feeling of beauty. In the poem the moth states, " It is better to be happy for a moment and be burn in beauty than to live a long time and be bored all the while". The the moth continues, "it is better to be part of beauty for one instant and cease to exist than forever and never be part of beauty". Both of those …show more content…
Julio Noboa uses his word and Don Marquis uses the character to show the theme. For example, in "the lesson of the moth" Don Marquis expresses the universal theme by using the character. He made the moth, the main character, to want to Kill himself to experience beauty just for one moment. On the other hard, Julio Nuboa from ".Identity" uses its words to describe how being beautiful would make him have a boring and worthless life. However both poets also approach the universal theme similarly. Both poets, Julio Noboa and Don Marquis, use humans to compare beauty and real life. Julio Noboa said, "I'd rather be unseen, and if, then shunned by everyone than to be a pleasant-flower, growing in clusters in the fertile valley where they're praised, handled, and plucked by greedy, human hands". In addition, Don Marquis also uses humans examples by saying, "we are like humans beings used to be before they became too civilized to enjoy themselves".
