DALE
I know everything.
ANDY
I doubt that.
DALE
Do you think it was coincidence that after that happened, your Aunt started sending you care packages.
ANDY
She sent me one or maybe two but now that I think about it none of them contained a single baked good.
DALE
She thought she was the last wish-maker in the family and then you happened. You lit someone’s hair on fire just by saying wish granted.
ANDY
I got expelled from that school and then sent to another boarding school. No one would let me come home.
DALE
She kept you at bay because she didn’t want to like you. You can’t help those you love. Which is actually rule number one of wish-making. You can’t grant wishes for those you care for. It’s kind of a curse of some sort. Watching the ones

INT. THE SWEET SPOT BAKERY’S BACK KITCHEN - CONTINUOUS
Andy knows it’s true. She is a wish-maker.
ANDY
(still defiant)
Prove it. Let me grant you a wish. What do you want? A million dollars?
DALE
That is a cliché. No one wishes for that anymore.
Dale takes an old coin out of his pocket.
DALE (CONT’D)
I got my wish. I just haven’t used it yet.
(beat)
Another tidbit about wish making. You can pre-grant wishes onto objects. I’m saving this one for a rainy day or for when I really fuck something up.
ANDY
Do you...fu...mess a lot of things up?
DALE
Oh yeah.
Dale throws the coin into the air and quickly catches it right in front of Andy, causing her head to snap back. Dale puts the coin back into his pocket and takes out a crumpled piece of paper.
DALE (CONT’D)
This is a list of everyone that Louise owes a wish to. Now, it’s your list. Your Aunt wanted you to do this. You have to do this for her.
(pointing to the list)
You owe Melvin a wish and he’s been very patient. He’s also been a little shit about it.
Andy looks forlorn.
DALE (CONT’D)
Get through this list and you can go back to your shitty isolated quiet life. I

Although I am fifteen feet ahead of him, anyone watching us from the cottonhouse can see Jewel's frayed and broken straw hat a full head above my own. The path runs straight as a plumb-line, worn smooth by feet and baked brick-hard by July, between the green rows of laid-by cotton, to the cottonhouse in the center of the field, where it turns and circles the cottonhouse at four soft right angles and goes on across the field again, worn so by feet in fading precision.…

Beloved and Their Eyes Were Watching God are pivotal pieces of African American literature that describe or relate to the experiences of African American culture in one way or another. Toni Morrison and Zora Neale Hurston helped pave the way for future generations. However, there are a multitude of other authors who made it possible for Beloved and Their Eyes Were Watching God. As early as 1853, Solomon Northup let readers experience his worst nightmares in his memoir, 12 Years a Slave. I think one of the more important things that I’ve been observing and learning to do is not care about why and the reasons for a situation. There’s a vast number of ways to shun or hurt people without saying anything, especially after you’ve been susceptible to being drawn in to explain what’s on your mind. Sometimes the speaker is at fault for expecting the listener to keep information to themselves, once it’s in another persons mind and or in a spot where it can be easily accessed again, then that’s that. Over the last 6 years I honestly can say I probably deserve a lot of this silent treatment, silent bashing, and whatever I’m being called or viewed as.…
