The first poem i studied is "Moring Song", i agree that this poem is intense, deeply personal and quite disturbing. This poem is a positive, celebration of Plaths daughter. This poem is very personal as its a poem about her feelings and how she felt nervous after the birth of her first child, "In a drafty museum, your nakedness shadows our safety. We stand around blankly as walls". It also is a disturbing poem as she is focused on her body image just after having a baby comparing herself to a cow, "cow-heavy". Another line i find disturbing is, "I'm no more your mother" that she can have a negative feeling and is worried that as they are not connected anymore, this is a disturbing image. This poem is also shows intensity using a simile, "Love

For example, the narrator states in the second stanza “The woman,/ the one my father knows,/ is not here,/ She does not come till later” (16-19). It implies a depressed tone when there was another woman because it usually leads to a miserable affair. On top of the depressed tone, is a hint of a mischievous tone because it usually leads to a miserable affair. In addition, the narrator then transitions the poem to “My mother will get very mad,/ Her face will turn red,/ and she will throw one shoe” (20-23).…

In this poem I use the strategy Internal Rhyme, each verse has 8 syllables and the whole poem has 8 lines. This poem symbolises about how some people just wander aimlessly through life not knowing what will happen next; will they be a saint, or will the lead a life of crime? I've used this formatting to show how formal some people may appear to be, which is the left side of the poem, which uses only one font. The right side represents the crumbling happiness of said person. These fonts were chosen to show the many moods they can go through, with a mind of a day to day basis.…

“Another Elegy” is a poem about the relationships in life that happen. In the line “This is what our dying looks like..” gives us as a reader the feeling that we need to believe that when something bad happens, we need to just believe that something that is there. The poem is about someone trying to kill themselves. It happens in the line, “he let the gun go off in his mouth.” Then, all of a sudden, the bad side of the person in the poem comes out.…

The next line is “Or fester like a sore-- And then run?” This is another rhetorical question that is used to answer the first question. Imagine that you have a sore on your arm. You want it to become dry so that it will heal quickly and correctly, but instead the sore starts to fester or run, this means that the sore must have become infected. This will take much longer to heal now.…

Matthew Sayers Professor Jared Westover English 1302 7 October 2015 Poem Evaluation Title William E. Stafford’s poem, An Oregon Message, goes between talking about the beauty of space exploration and the possible disruptions that the space exploration could have caused. Stafford uses a mix of imagery, anaphora and metaphors among other devices to increase the affect his poem has on the reader. Richard Brautigan’s poem, All Watch Over By Machines of Loving Grace, also talks about the beauty of nature and how rapid advances in technology have affected the world. This topic, “A concern with nature coupled with often surreal and whimsical plots” is one that Brautigan goes to in many of his poems. Brautigan uses very similar literary devices as Stafford for a similar effect.…

In my English 30-1 course students such as myself were given the opportunity to select pieces of poetry that spoke to them. I personally chose the song “The Dog Days Are Over” by Florence and The Machine. The first time this song met my ears was when a friend plugged their iPhone into my truck speakers as we drove down a gravel road to our destination which was a campground. After listening politely as small rain drops began to fall on my windshield I was met with the questioning eyes of my friend on if I had enjoyed the song. As their eyes questioned my belief I was hit by a sudden truth the fact that I hadn’t enjoyed the song.…

    Ask Me Poem Analysis

“Ask Me” by William Stafford is a contemporary poem that compares the author’s life to a river. The reader is instilled with a strong sense of nostalgia, placidity, and introspection as Stafford reflects on his past and the meaning of his actions and life. The theme of this piece is life and its relative pace, similar to a river which is used as an ongoing metaphor Stafford introduces himself early on because this work is a conversation between the author and the reader. In the first stanza, Stafford repeatedly implores the reader to “ask me” (1, 2, 6) about his past and his thoughts. This repetition causes a slight uneasiness in the reader as Stafford is insisting the reader to participate.…

Fade This One to Black Black shrouds of darkness, as black as the night, black shadows dancing - across the night sky. By the light of the moon, with wings outstretched, bats playing in the shadows. Shades of gray, fading away, turning into inky blackness - a void of despair. Clutches at a broken heart, when love fades into darkness, not even the light of a glowing candle - can take away the gloom.…

Tone, its the attitude of the writer towards the subject of the poem. The tone of the poem all depends in how the reader read it. The reader must pay attention to the literary devices that the author use when he wrote this poem. In my opinion i consider the tone of this poem to be wistful. Wistful about the choices that he made in his life and wondering about what his life might as been if he had made other choices.…

Memories can be declared as a form of language, literally and metaphorically, in a way to express how the holocaust affected Jakob, as a survivor. A universal way of expression that Michaels demonstrates is poetry and song. Michaels describes how poetry is a way of art that Jakob, Anthos, and Ben turn to in order to express their thoughts and pain, but also too reminiscent themselves of love and pleasure. Daphne stated to Jakob after being informed that he writes poetry, that Jakob has the ability to make people marry (Michaels 58).…

I feel like John Keats’s intention into writing this poem was understanding that at the time he was very ill and that he might die of an early death. John Keats is very frustrated that he may never achieve his life’s work and to never experience love. He longs for love and fame, but in the end of the poem he realizes how small his desires are and basically just gives up and looks out into the ocean. John Keats’s tone in this whole poem is very doubtful. He is always doubtful in finding love and fame.…
