He finished fastening his tie, grabbed his coat, turned off the oven and the lights, dumped the dishes in the sink, and ran out on the porch.” The language is the author choose this pieces was he did not have any filters. You can see the setting of the character here is aggressive, irritated and making it clear to the his audiences that he is late. Also, the author deliberate to the audiences to have pity or worrisome for the character for not knowing he would lose his job. The reason why I like this quote is because sometimes people are late so he is explaining why he got late. Sometimes I get late when i have plans and they tell me to be there at a exact time. This quote tells us that everyone is not perfect.

kay, so now we know about timshel, but it's also Adam's last word before he dies (at least it wasn't something totally random like rosebud). He says it right after Lee gets him to give Cal his blessing, i.e. show that he loves him as a son and free him from the guilt of "killing" his brother. It's a moment where things are at a crossroads for Cal: he could go on hating himself for what he has done and thinking that his dad died hating his guts, or he can be free and go on to break the Cain-Abel curse that seems to follow the Trask family around. As Lee says to Adam, "Give him his chance"…

“A Certain Lady” is a short poem written by Dorothy Parker detailing a woman’s thoughts on her relationship with a mysterious man. The poem is written as a monologue about the woman’s ability to appear happy around the man and his inability to gauge her true feelings. Despite her affection for him, he constantly tells her stories of his exploits with women. While the topic itself seems simple in nature, the relationship in question, as well as the poem itself, is quite complex. Each stanza adds layers of complexity to the poem.…

Growing up as a hispanic woman in America has always been more difficult than I thought it was going to be. There were many times where I felt excluded, judged or like I am not as good as other people. Throughout my life this has always affected my happiness because it was never as easy as I wanted it to be. With that being said, many people that are also a different race also struggle with this problem and this affects their wellbeing as well. I came to realize what a struggle being a person of color is to other people as well after carefully reading a short story by Junot Diaz called “Wildwood” and a poem by Claudia Rankine called “From Citizen Six” where both of the characters were treated unfairly, and ran into issues on a daily basis because…

It is intriguing without a doubt while trying to gain the understanding of this poem. While trying to present this poem in an intense way, this poem seems to get kind of dim, and it is as though you are an accomplished writer offering guidance to another writer. Additionally, Nikki's utilization of symbolism and utilizing her own life, such as being a mother, places you into her shoes. There is additionally the utilization of past and outside pictures like typewriters that place you into her time period. When you present it in an alternate voice, the state of mind and tone will undoubtedly change.…

    The Victims Poem Analysis

Upon initial reading, “The Victims” by Sharon Olds seems to be a poem that paints the picture of a life of abuse; starting from the dawning of the exploitation and arching over into the life of the abused following the maltreatment. In the work, it is made to be believed that the clear victims of the poem are the speaker and their family—which is a rightful and obvious assumption—but there is another victim that is not as prevalent as that of the speaker and their family: the speaker’s father. After a second read, it is made evidently apparent that although the work does focus on the speaker and their family as the victims of the poem, the ideal that the father is also a victim is explored. Since the father is depicted as an abuser, it is seen…

Most of today’s society has had an experience like the character in Carolyn Kizer’s poem “Bitch”, by meeting an ex-significant lover/partner when visiting a local place. The awkward first moment while making eye contact with one another just like a past experience, often creates a challenge about the appropriate way to act. Especially, if the past experiences was not pleasant and/or was full of male dominance. Carolyn Kizer shows this in her poem through the theme, which is, you should never chase after something that was never really yours to begin with and is more harmful than rewarding. Beginning with the title, “Bitch”, most readers will associate this word to have two possible meanings.…

The World’s Wife is a collection of poetry that successfully challenges society’s preconceptions of what it means to be a woman. While the female voice is often silenced, Duffy focuses on the women who were in the midst of male-centric stories in Biblical, mythological and fairytale narratives. Some may argue that the expectations of women are completely subverted in poems such as The Devil’s Wife, in which the maternal and nurturing image of a woman is replaced by the disturbing portrayal of the infamous child serial killer Myra Hindley. Alternatively, some feminine qualities are also explored in this poem, such as a woman’s dependence on men, as demonstrated by Hindley’s twisted, passionate love for Ian Brady.…
