Poem Analysis: Child Stars Gone Wrong

Lindsay Lohan. Justin Bieber. Britney Spears. Amanda Bynes. All these people have one major thing in common. They are unfairly labeled as “Child Stars Gone Wrong”. A combined list of their criminal charges include unauthorised drag racing on a public street, a ton of DUIs, drug use, theft, tampering with evidence, and many more outrageous charges. While I believe people make their own choices and are responsible for their actions, I also believe that the environment people are upraised in can heavily affect their behavior. Hollywood isn’t the most nurturing place for a developing child to grow up. We shouldn’t be so quick to hate on “child stars gone wrong”, when all they knew was drugs, adult parties, and other inappropriate activities for …show more content…
Kid celebrities are people that make mistakes just like everyone else. “Sometimes it's hard to do the right thing, when the pressure's coming down like lightning, it's like they want me to be perfect, when they don't even know that I'm hurting.” state's Justin Bieber in his new song “I’ll Show You”, “This life's not easy, i'm not made out of steel, don't forget that I'm human, don't forget that I'm real.” Bieber is one of the many kid stars who took a wrong turn. In his song, he’s reminding his fans and his doubters that he makes mistakes just like everyone else. He also promises that he’ll “show you” that he’s better than what the media makes him out to be. This song isn’t the only platform Justin Bieber used to show that he’s making a large effort to change …show more content…
Before they have a chance to figure out themselves and be an adolescent, they have to take on an adult responsibility. Tia Mowry, who co-starred with her twin sister Tamera in several movies and shows starting at age 16, states, “You may think that the life of a Disney star is an easy one, but it’s actually a lot of pressure. You're a child who is working. You have a job. That job is a hard job. Everybody thinks being a child star is glamorous. But when you're on a show, you are often carrying a whole show and you know that. You have to pull it off. You have to know your lines. People are making money off you. And then, you have to go to school. You miss out on a lot of things. I had to miss my prom. You see these kids on Disney and it seems like so much fun. At the same time, it's an 8-year-old with a J-O-B. It's a lot of pressure." Mowry is explaining the work and stress that comes with the “perfect” life of a child celebrity. How would you feel if you were a child with the responsibilities of a grown woman/man? I’m a 13 year old and I get stressed while doing my homework! I get stressed when my phone isn’t connected to wi-fi! I would go insane if I had to act like an adult 24/7. We have to understand that child stars live with the “normal” stress that comes with being a kid who’s trying to figure out where he/she belongs and the additional stress of having a

In my opinion, we should stop making stupid people famous. Today, it is very easy for anyone to be remembered for a very long time, for doing virtually nothing. Worst case scenario, we can even make someone famous for doing something stupid, like eating a tampon or disrespecting their mother. Yes, shocking I know but these two things have actually happened.…

    The Victims Poem Analysis

    • 1110 Words
    • 5 Pages

Upon initial reading, “The Victims” by Sharon Olds seems to be a poem that paints the picture of a life of abuse; starting from the dawning of the exploitation and arching over into the life of the abused following the maltreatment. In the work, it is made to be believed that the clear victims of the poem are the speaker and their family—which is a rightful and obvious assumption—but there is another victim that is not as prevalent as that of the speaker and their family: the speaker’s father. After a second read, it is made evidently apparent that although the work does focus on the speaker and their family as the victims of the poem, the ideal that the father is also a victim is explored. Since the father is depicted as an abuser, it is seen…

They have too much pressure on themselves so they might not know what to do so they start doing drugs or drinking alcohol at an early age. There have been many cases where child actors ruin their lives from overdosing on drugs or alcohol and ending up in either jail or rehab.…

The short story “Sudden” written by Duncan Long and the poem “Anthem for Doomed Youth” by Wilfred Owen presents how war has corrupted our humanity throughout history. Writers reflect their belief on the tragedy of war. This is presented through Duncan Long’s story which shows the reality of war that is brutal and violent through imagery and characterisation, suggests that war destroys innocence in youth. Through the use of symbolization, the poet, Wilfred Owen explores the idea that deaths in war are not truly commemorated. Therefore, the authors convey a message that war is not glorious or honourable and will never bring peace; however war destroys lives and is meaningless.…

In poems, “Stealing” and “Education for leisure”, Duffy uses a range of literary devices like colloquial language and short sentences. Duffy clearly portrays a sinister and lonely persona in both poems. In “Stealing” the persona is presented as lonely and isolated from society so they resort to stealing just for the pleasure of doing it. Similarly, in “Education for leisure”, an egotistical young adult is portrayed who is killing living things to undo his intense isolation. These poems were written by Duffy to show the terrible situation the UK faced in the 1980s.…

Today’s teens are bombarded with images and activities that don't mirror their lives from hit teen-TV shows like "The OC" and "Gossip Girl" to the multitude of entertainment programs and features in magazines. Today's media obsessed society often leads students to believe all they need to 'be cool' is be thin, blonde and wear the latest designer clothes. The UGLY program aims to help young adults self-esteem by using celebrities, as they know that young people look up to celebrities and their identity is reflected on them. Sometimes this is a good thing and other times it is a bad thing and this is why celebrities need to function as a role model to their audience because of today's celebrity-obsessed society. I plan to expand this theory and reasons behind the celebrity-obsessed society.…
