The poem gives a common theme of loneliness and isolation. Somes in life people feel lonely as of they are stuck in the woods by themselves just waiting to be in someone else 's company. “Then I, entombed for an hour less night /With the world of things unseen.” (line 3-4) The hourless night the poet speaks of is the lonely place people are in everyday because they feel as if they can not relate to anyone. Also the poet expresses loneliness because she may not be seen for all the good things she does therefore she lives with the world of things unseen. By being entombed in the night shows that she is trapped and is trying desperately to get out of her lonely and miserable state. Another meaning would be that everyone wants to be loved. “I lose the ache of the wilderness/And long for the fire instead” (line 11-12). Every once in awhile people like to be lonely however eventually everyone wants to be loved or long for the “fire”. In the song there are multiple layer of meanings. If humans have no meaningful relationships we will fall into a downward spiral where we get a sense of hopelessness and have a hightened feeling of being trapped, like we are a dog tied to a fence waiting for its owner. When individuals feel lost they tend to hide their emotions, “As if they wore their smiles on the inside of their faces”, this quote from the poem speaks on a very personal level to whomever the reader is, whether you are very optimistic or slightly pessimistic we are able to tell that the person in this story is in lots of distress, so much to the point where they even need to hide their emotions because they do not have a single person to talk to. Sometimes individuals experience something traumatic in their life and often enough those individuals have not formed any personal relationships with anyone. The War Prayer carries a heavy anti-war message using a cynical tone of religion. The setting of the poem is at height when Imperialism was the strongest. Twain used collective phrases to glorify war and emphasize patriotism. Twain is able to capture this setting by describing a celebration in the streets, “the drums were beat, the bands playing, the top pistols popping, the bunches firecrackers hissing and spluttering”, “flags flashed in the sun” (Perkins, 57). To further capture this image Twain used the pastors speech of “devotion to flag and country.…

Stories such as Uncle Tom’s Cabin, “The Hunters of Men”, and “Civil Disobedience” all have a connection with the fight to gain civil rights and equality. Much of that still carries on into the 21st century we live in today. In Uncle Tom’s Cabin, a woman takes matters into her own hands in order to save her child, showing her strength and bravery that many women in today's time possess as well. “The Hunters of Men”, a short story written by John Greenleaf Whittier, is considered to be a public attack on slave hunters. The public attacks against their government and the way people were treated didn't stop there, in “Civil Disobedience” by Henry David Thoreau, Thoreau made sure to show that the people had more power over the government than they thought.…

This song talks about the speaker who is abused by her boyfriend but she stands by him because she loves him. This is similar to when we find out that Mayella was abused by her father but still loves him because well, it’s her father. They both show unhealthy relationships and how bad things can be at home. The mood in both of this song and the book is desperate. They are both desperate for love and will do anything to stay by their family/man.…

Throughout the poem a lot of stanzas represent and symbolize much for than what is read. One example is in stanza ten “her side was warm, her fawn lay there waiting”. This line shows an opportunity for the fawn’s survival. When the fawn is not born, it represents a lost opportunity. A second line that hides a lot of meaning and symbolism is line 15, “I stood in the glare of the warm exhaust turning red”.…
