There once was a tree named Penny that stood in the middle of the grassy field. She was surrounded by trees that bared leaves all year long. Penny had a problem: she could not bear leaves. It made her very sad. All of the trees around her snickered and made fun of poor Penny.

Penny prayed that leaves would grow on her branches but nothing would come. The trees next to her were full of leaves that changed colors of red, orange, and yellow every season. “Look at her. She has no leaves.” Dino Dogwood giggled. “Too bad Penny, maybe next year.” Elly Elmwood teased rolling her eyes. “Better luck next time.” Mabel Mapletree and Sylvia Sycamore laughed in unison.

They laughed and made their full leafy braches join
