Poe was an abnormal guy who has suffered through many losses of family members in his life. And then his own death happened. Poe has lost multiple family members due to illnesses. But his death still remains a mystery, many think he died from rabies but he died from alcoholism. However, Poe did die of alcoholism because he had no bites or scratches from his cat or any other animal to get rabies so that’s the only other way he could've died according to the articles. Many people believe that Poe died of rabies, however Poe died of alcohol. Poe always said he was going to stop drinking but he never did. Supplementary accounts of Poes alcoholic condition came from Joseph Walker a Baltimore printer who first found him. Benedetto 189
People knew that Poe had a drinking problem. There was lack of evidence of a bite or scratch and he had no symptoms. Benedetto 189. Poes cat Catrina died of starvation and showed no signs of rabies.
There's no way Poe could have died from rabies because he had no bites or scratches from anything. As said in the letter to the editor, I do not admit that the lack of a bite or scratch is a weakness in my theory that Edgar Allen Poe may have died of rabies encephalitis. Benítez 190. Even a supporter of the claim "he died of rabies" cannot fully support it. Poes cat is the only animal he is ever around and it didn’t have rabies. The pet cat Catrina uninfected showed no

For example, according to Charles Cestre, “Drinking was in fact to be the bane of his life” (Britannica 1). He would drink incessantly, and many people viewed him as a drug addict (Britannica 1). In fact, Poe would swill so much that he nearly died of Heart failure in 1844 (Ebsco 1). This would lead Poe to become increasingly erratic. Perhaps his troubled mind found expression in his…

This refutes the alcohol claim because it presents that Poe could not have died from alcohol poisoning because it makes him ill and he avoided it to avoid becoming. Since Poe knew it made him ill he would not have overdosed on it because he knew that it would greatly sicken him and possibly kill him. In addition, the article “Poe’s Final Days”, by Kenneth Silverman, attempts to reinforce their claim by stating “Moran's account of his profuse perspiration, trembling, and hallucinations indicates delirious tremens, mania à potu.” (8). Delirium tremens is a state of confusion caused by alcohol withdrawals.…

On Oct. 7, 1849, Edgar Allan Poe died mysteriously. While there are many theories about why or how he died, my belief is that he died as a result of alcohol induced madness otherwise known as mania-a-potu. In a letter to Poe’s biographer, Marie Louise Shew, Poe’s nurse and friend, writes of Poe’s pre-existing condition in which he couldn’t consume alcohol without “producing insanity”. With Poe’s condition he wouldn’t have been able to control himself after consuming alcohol. In a letter to his mother in law, Maria Clemm, four months before he died, Poe states he had a manic episode in which he was taken to prison for intoxication.…

Edgar Allan Poe's Final Chapter Edgar’s death cannot be blamed on rabies, but becoming drunk and falling ill. While Poe had some of the symptoms of rabies, he didn’t show some of the other signs like “itching and other sensations that could affect the entire limb or side of the body” with also no evidence of Poe even being bitten. No one said specifically that he wasn’t drunk either. With instances of being violent when drunk and promising his wife and mother-in-law to stop, it takes time to eventually quit for good.…

It might not have been easy, but using what I read in that article, I was able to make the conclusion that Poe died of a cooping Back in the 1840´s, when men could vote and women can not, the men would take another man up off the street and they drug them. The men would then put them in other people´s old dirty clothes and force them to go vote for the candidates they wanted to win the election, because every man can only vote one time, once they are done with them, the men that forced them to vote again just throw them out on the street while they are still drugged and go and find another man to vote and this keeps going. This is the theory called cooping. In the article I read, it stated that Poe was found outside of a polling place. Then it went on and stated that Poe was…

On Oct. 7, 1849, Edgar Allan Poe died mysteriously. While many speculate about his untimely death, my belief is that he was suffering from a fever borne from some kind of illness, most likely cholera, and died as a result. The most believable evidence comes from Poe himself, in a letter to his mother-in-law, Maria Clemm, Poe told Maria that he had contracted cholera weeks before he arrived in Richmond and had a manic episode. In addition, Elmira Royster Shelton, Poe’s fiancee, wrote to Maria that on September 26, Poe had a fever and was pale before he left Richmond for Baltimore. Finally, in another letter to Maria by Poe’s attending physician, he states that Poe arrived unconscious and was like that until early morning where he woke up in…

There are many theories as to how Edgar Allan Poe died. Some say that he was beaten to death, he suffered from rabies, or he had a brain tumor.
