Pmean Case Summary

The mode was precisely set for the patient because the patient was able to maintain a good respiratory status. Her ABG results shows that the current setting are appropriate with no ventilation problems, but the oxygenation is little low, for that we can go high on FiO2 or peep. Her mandatory rate is set within normal limits (40 – 60 bpm). Her Pmean is also less than 10 cmH20 which also determine oxygenation. Her spontaneous tidal volume is based on 3.5 ml/kg, which is not a bad effort. Flow trigger and sensitivity settings are appropriate as the patient has no trouble taking a breath in. her set tidal volume is set 6.5 ml/kg according to her weight. It’s a high volume being given, the reason could be to maintain her good ventilation.

Earlier during my assessment of Mrs. Reyes I learned that she does not have good eyesight, and does not wear her eyeglasses anymore. Therefore, told her that I will talk with the social worker about setting up an appointment with the Ophthalmologist who is covered by her insurance, in close proximity to her house, to ensure that she regularly gets her eyes checked, gets a new pair of eye glasses, and is educated on the importance of eye exams to prevent retinopathy. When the PCA told me Mrs. Reyes’s vital signs, the first thing I noticed was that her oxygen level was 88% on room air that is a bit low. Therefore, I went back in, reassessed our patient and noticed she needed a boost in bed. After boosting I checked her pulse ox, and it had gone back within normal limits above…
