Pay teachers for the knowledge and skills they gain. Districts shouldn’t simply withhold monetary rewards from teachers who are ineffective: districts should help them improve or evaluate them out of the profession (Riegal). If they are not working equally hard or confronting similar challenges, then treating them equally is manifestly unfair and that is what the districts do today(Hess). Teachers who have tenure or contracts that secure their jobs regardless of their performance should not have tenure this allows them to do horrible in their jobs and principals are not able to remove them, this fails students and is highly unfair to those teachers who do their jobs and go above and beyond for their students. Looking at what is expected of teachers one would be shocked at what teachers actually have to do. Teaching third graders algebra is utterly ridiculous when the teachers are not even allowed to teach and get students to master basics in math and reading. The teachers are given rules on what they must teach and that list is so long that the teachers are not allowed to spend enough time on basics to build a more solid foundation to build on. But how? The U.S should reform its system of determining teachers salaries, thereby attracting more outstanding individuals to the profession and in return increasing the quality of education. It is important to recognize that most teachers are fairly compensated for their work, but we also acknowledge that many of the teachers who outperform their peers are not rewarded.
