The second student I observed was a 14 year old girl who receives Visual Impairment assistance. The student attends Pleasant Grove High School and is in the 8th grade. The school is a relatively new school and has a lot of resources for the student to use. The student has a para who accompanies her from the start until the end of the school day. The student also has the county’s visual specialist come to work with her twice a week. Right from the beginning I noticed the student wants to be very independent. She tries her best to do a lot of things on her own. This is a positive and negative attitude for her. She using a cane and has to everything larger than 18 point font. Although she tries to do a lot on her own, she has been known to have seizures, so her independence is cut short because of that. …show more content…
Everything done in and out of the classroom is accommodated and modified for her to be able to participate. There is not one day that she cannot participate. She wants to be involved in everything done in the classroom, especially in her Physical Science class. She loves to participate in labs and hands on activities. The students in that class are very helpful and will work with her on labs instead of her para so that she is able to feel included in the lesson and that she is exerting her independence. The student is very happy, always smiling, and enjoys being around others. Not once have I been under the impression that she wasn’t being taken care of at

Whilst observing at Agnew Middle School, I noticed some ways that Mrs.Lane motivated her students. It was almost guaranteed that there would be a test every week, and if not a test there would be an assignment added on Think Through Math. She would assign work on Think Through Math weekly, because if a student failed the Math STAAR (a Texas state standardized test required by the Texas public schools) in seventh grade and did work on Think Through Math weekly leading up to the eighth grade STAAR a higher percentage passed. Neighboring on the tests and homework assigned, Mrs.Lane also motivated her students by giving them opportunities to do test corrections and putting the limit of wrong answers on Think Through Math to seven. She made the…

Alone in the school library of Mead High, the students being observed made interesting actions. The students here only ranged from 11th and 12th graders, as this took place during an off block, which are only available to upperclassmen. There were ten tables in the back of the library that students had the choice of. Many were only occupied by one or two students, thought they could hold four. This observation took place before lunch had occurred, but the library at Mead has signs saying, “No Eating Allowed Here.”…

For my observation, I chose a student with autism that I have become familiar with at my field placement. For privacy reasons I will name my student James; I do not know what category of autism James has, but I know that he has been diagnosed for autism, has an IEP, and is currently below grade average in most of his classes. James is an only child, approximate age 15-16, in between his freshman and sophomore year at Strive Smart Preparatory High School. Disability and the implications on the students’ classroom experience Autism according to Brooke, C., & Buckley, P.C. When students come into kindergarten they are across the board with different levels of development and skills. I quickly noticed through observation that a very important characteristic to understand with these children is their maturity level. I found it the most helpful to observe students with how they work and interact with others. I believe the best way to teach is to understand who your students are. This means getting to know them on a personal level; learning about their families, interests, and dreams.…

The teacher evaluates how effect her teaching approach is by observing the students work. She writes ‘help’ on the paper or activity when the students require a large amount of help to finish. I decided on her school and class specifically because I have a good standing with the district and the teachers. On April 18, 2016, I decided that it would be less disruptive if I just went in for one day instead of five days for an hour. The teachers were pleased that I had volunteered to help out in my daughter’s class. The rooms are very organized a set up properly for the students as it prepares then for the 1st grade room which is set up in a similar way.…
