Take care of your family, love them, and cherish every moment that you have with them. Do not wait until someone in your family has to suffer from abuse. If you think that something is wrong, report it and ask for someone to help them. Knowledge is power. Knowing that there is a potential for elderly abuse to happen is half the battle. Don’t do like some of us; those who learned the hard way by seeing it happen to an elderly person we love. First, my father was a victim of identity theft because of a woman he trusted. Then, someone else took away everything he loved and valued with lies. I never believed one family member could hurt or take advantage of an elderly person who was suffering from dementia and medication issues, until I saw it happen in my own family. The elderly man in my family is aware of what happened and he feels the betrayal of his own blood relatives. Relatives who knew that he was going through medication withdraws that could make him confused and scared, angry and paranoid. There is no way to wipe that memory from my father’s mind and I feel that no one should have to go through what he will have to live with in his final years. Please, take my word for it. Protect your family. They are the only family that you will ever have and they have so many wonderful things to share with you before their time is
