Playtime Is Over Summary

In the article “Playtime Is Over” by david Elkind it is explained that recess is no longer fun for or playtime for children. Elkind feels that children should be able to experience child development which is being able to socialize and respect the rights of others. Schools are now beginning to hire recess coaches to oversee students free. Many schools have eliminated academically. According to Elkind it is better to have recess coaching then eliminating recess to children to work more. I believe that children should be entitled to recess. In agreement with Elkind if I was given a choice between recess coaching or eliminating recess I would prefer recess coaching. Children should be able to relax after a long day at school. They are able to go back to class and work for the remaining of the time left. In April students haf state ELA and Mathematics test to prepare for. For about two weeks before the test teachers were putting a lot of pressure on these children to prepare them for the big test. They took practice test everyday till the actual test came along. Students were given recess during those two weeks and many of them felt at ease when it was time to go back to class to continue working. They would concentrate even more and receive a decent grade from their practice test. In conclusion, recess should be given to children weither its recess coaching or just recess period. Children should be able to socialize and bond with others. They should be able to feel relaxed and stress free. Recess can benefit children to become more focus and return back to class with a more concentrated mind. Children should feel overwhelmed mind. Children shouldn’t feel overwhelmed of working all day they should feel at ease and calm during and after their recess. Recess can make a difference to a child that probably doesn’t have the time to have free time at
