Due to the fact that the PlayStation 4’s cost was lower than the Xbox One’s cost, Microsoft made the decision to make a more bare-bones package for the Xbox One to match Sony’s price point for the PlayStation 4. According to Wingfield (2014) “Microsoft Corp. to introduce the Xbox One video game console without the Kinect motion and voice-controlled sensor for $399 in June 2014 to match the price of PlayStation 4 from Sony Corp.” (para. 1) In turn, this caused sales to increase and catch up with the competition and boost sales. According to Peckham (2014a) “Microsoft says in an Xbox Wire post that Xbox One sales have more than doubled since the company began selling a Kinect-less version of its flagship games console on June 9.” This entirely proves that even though sales were not heavily affected by the previously higher cost of the Xbox One bundle with Kinect.
