Should Student Athletes Get Good Grades Essay

Less than two percent of all student athletes in high school who got college scholarship make it to the professional level. The other 98 percent of these athletes who don’t get chosen to play professionally need to obtain have a good education so they can have a successful career after school. Otherwise, they are at a disadvantage. My point is that student athletes should first obtain and maintain passing grades in order to play sports in high school and college. Playing sports should be a privilege that should be granted after obtaining good grades. Passing grades will give students the opportunity to get into a good college and help them after college as well. Obtaining good grades will help students in their future whether they play a sport or not.
The first reason why athletes should have passing grades to play sports is that playing school sports is a privilege and should be earned. Students should have to maintain a good GPA in order to be allowed to play a school sport. According to the website WHYY it states, “The National Collegiate Athletic Association will not allow students to play sports unless they meet the required GPA and standardized test scores.” This leaves coaches with no other choice but to take athletes with good grades. The kids that are chosen by their coaches are privileged to play because of their grades.
