Chapter 20 - Playing Chess and Speed Thinking

Chess is a game of creating opportunities and seizing those moments to your advantage. Each move you make or do not make can change the outcome of the game at the drop of a hat. Speed chess requires you to think fast on your feet while playing. This can put considerable amounts of pressure on your brain to succeed at a fast pace. Chess is very beneficial to your brain because of eyesight training. When you are moving your eyes back and forth rapidly to process the multiple possible moves that you are making, this can help increase speed thinking as well as speed learning. Lastly is the film technique of symbolism. This is expressed though the chess board scene that occurs just before Roy and Sebastian arrive to meet Tyrell. Symbolism is considered to be an aspect within a film, usually physical, that makes reference to another important idea either in another part of the film, or the real world. The chess board is clearly an example of this, through how, while it does serve the purpose of a chess board, there are many discreet yet noticeable surrounding meanings. As chess is a two-player game, this particular round appears to be between Tyrell and Roy (who has taken over from Sebastian).…

    Play Critique Essay

As a person who has only attened two other plays in their life, people might call me “unqualified” to review a play; these people are wrong. My qualifications for play review come solely from an “excess” amount of musicals listened to, pirated videos, and animatics watched on youtube. Seeing Guys and Dolls live was a great experience as a whole, and I enjoyed myself throughly. Understandably there were a few things that I disagreed with, so I will nitpick and pretend that my qualifications alone make me justified to critique a play that no doubt took alot of effort, stress, and love to make.…

There are many aspects of design that must be considered when developing a board game; it’s essentially creating a new world. Qualities of the game itself are important. In particular, great games are balanced in a sense that they provide enough challenge to make playing enjoyable, and also provide adequate understanding of how to play. Board game design requires a balanced effort of both play dynamic and visual. Many game designers under estimate the importance of visuals, leaving them in the hands of the publishers.…

The Power of Play, written by David Elkind, stresses the importance of play throughout children’s lives. He shows us that play is not all just fun and games, but it can also be used to development different milestones, play can also be used to make sense of the world around us, and different types of play can have therapeutic and psychological remedies to help children. Play is the baseline of all children’s lives and it needs to be treated as so and not overlooked as just a fun pass time activity. As a potential child life specialist, it would be part of my job to be able to help children either express themselves in the form of play or either use play to adverse hospitalization effects.
