Reading music is key for learning how to play the violin, if you can’t read the notes, then you can’t play the song on the violin. When it comes to reading music you must first know what the lines are called and what notes go on each line. The “lines” in the music are called bars, there are five individual bars and there four gaps between the lines which also hold notes. All of these bars put together are called a staff. The first line holds the note F, the gap between the first and second line holds the note A and from there it basically goes up the alphabet and goes back to A once you get to the note G. When I started out learning how to hold the bow, my instructor would have me hold a pencil, the length of the pencil is about how far you want your fingers apart from each other . When holding the bow you have to have a delicate hold, you cannot hold tight onto it because your wrist will lock, causing the sound that you’ll produce not to come out as nicely as you want it to.
