That subject was made clear to me through the development of how the family treated each other and the title of the play. In the beginning, the characters could hardly stand one another; for example, upon realizing Fran was there, Victoria had to contemplate if she could even stay here and stand being around her. In addition to that, she was not even offered the food at their table, Victoria had to ask her grandpa if it was okay to have some pizza and Fran was very hesitant about letting her stay. However, near the end of the play the death of Edwin made these women realize that their fighting was ridiculous and they began to recall the good times. My reaction of empathy increased the more I saw the family going through. It was so traumatic and made me feel sorry for them watching the man who used to run into burning buildings have trouble even standing up. I was just another engineer with his head stuck in his books and formulas missing out on one of the most thought provoking and engaging experiences I have ever been a part of. First of all, the passion behind the actors and the way they engaged each other on set and incorporated the set gave me a better appreciation for theatre. In addition to that, the amount of effort that the actors put into developing this story line and practicing multiple times makes me better understand what theatre is and how to enjoy it. Finally, when the actors fully embraced themselves and their characters and came around full circle to the end where you saw why the house was in fact beautiful because their memories made it beautiful left me in tears. I have never been an emotional person; however, this play brought out the joy in family and the passion of love between others as they endured a tough time which I thought was beautiful.
