Platypus Argumentative Essay

A platypus… isn’t it an odd creature? After all, a platypus is like an odd mixture of many animals that have evolved during time, so it’s weird looking. In my opinion, I think a platypus is a great animal since it’s unique and they’re adorable… in my eyes at least. I chose a platypus as my animal for the Geometric Shapes Project because I used to watch a show with a platypus being a secret agent and wearing a sombrero, and I found that adorable. In my opinion, I think that platypuses are odd, so it matched my personality perfectly―if that makes any sense. Although I may not admit it, a platypus matches my description and I think it’d be a great animal for a project like this. After all, I’m weird and so is a platypus. Platypuses are strange animals, but they have extraordinary attributes, as well. Platypuses weren’t discovered until 1796, when it was seen by a European. Some say that they would’ve been discovered before, if they weren't so hard to find or research on, due to the fact that they’re aquatic animals, they may have avoided contact with humans before. These aquatic animals can live up to thirteen years in their wet, cold, or warm habitats. Platypuses are mostly located in streams, ponds, lakes, and rivers, which is easier for them to search for food―since they’re diet are freshwater shrimps, crayfish, insect larvae, worms, tadpoles, and small fish. Platypuses have a flattish body shape, a soft elongated―other word for unusually long―snout …show more content…
Having a pet like that would be great, unfortunately, it’s illegal to keep a pet platypus. Although, I’m happy to choose a unique animal like this for my project, even if it was a strange choice, it’s best to choose something that someone else hasn’t chosen. In my opinion, I guess a platypus was a weird choice of an animal, but I’m glad I chose something challenging―I guess you can say. After all, a platypus is pretty weird

For my endangered species project I chose the coluber constrictor foxii also know as the blue racer snake. I chose this endangered animal because there are very few of them and it is a beautiful species. One of the biggest reasons this animal is endangered is because they are a very docile snake that would rather flee then flight. Since the beginning of time, achieving success has always been a group effort. Whether it be building the Pyramids or the White House, nothing over the course of history has ever been completed by one person alone. There is always help, whether it be in the form of someone acting on another individual's behalf or supporting someone by sharing advice or lending an encouraging word. Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer is a work that reveals the tendency of people to fail at helping and supporting unique or unordinary individuals find a way to fit into a materialistic society that seemingly contradicts everything they stand for. It is through analyzing the reasons why Chris McCandless goes into the wild that we see the importance of having a support group and finding people to hold yourself accountable to.…

Planaria are triploblastic acoelmate flatworms that inahabit marine and terrestrial environments and belong to the phylum Platyhelminthes. Though they are relatively complex creatures, as they possess an extremely branched gastrovascular cavity, a brain, hermaphroditic reproductive abilities, Planaria are best known for their regenerative capabilities (Rink, 2012). This is not a recent discovery, however. Peter Simon Pallas first described this regeneration 230 years ago in 1766, and Dalyell began experimental Planaria trials in 1814. Though there was a large resurgence in Planaria regeneration studies in the 1890s that involved renowned scientists such as Thomas Hunt Morgan, Planaria regeneration is still not yet completely understood (Newmark, Alvarado, 2001).…
