I strongly believe that an idealism that was propounded more than two thousand years ago can be flexible enough to be relevant in today’s century. Thus we can look at Plato theory of the tripartite society in terms of today’s Nigeria. It is important to note that Nigeria is a democratic state practicing democracy as a way of governance, Plato was not a fan of democracy he believed it was not the right type because it led to tyranny. This means in Nigeria we have to search deeply within ourselves and know who among belong to the rulers class, who among ourselves belongs to the auxiliaries and who among ourselves belongs to the workers class. In Nigeria the notion is that we can become whatever we want, this is totally anti-Plato because according to him we are not all the same and we are capable of different things. This makes perfect sense because we are not all equal intellectually, physically and emotionally, come to think of it, if we were all lawyers who would defend the country against external attacks, if we were all governors and senators who would direct traffic in the rowdy streets of Lagos. If we were all engineers who would ensure that the Ikeja Mall is beautiful and clean. Through the theory of the tripartite society Plato emphasized on the importance of roles in the society. In a direct translation of the tripartite society in Nigeria, the Nigeria society is divided into three. The ruler class are the one steering the wheels of leadership in Nigeria, the auxiliaries class are the ones who are protecting the Nigerians citizens against Boko Haram and other external threats and lastly the laborers class are the ones who ensure there is provision and that the nation is efficiently productive.
