I view love as two people who create a whole new person. With two humans having a true passion for one another, it expands their views on everything. They learn from one another and having someone that shares the same mindset, thoughts, and opinions creates a positive effect on an individual. Alone, a person has their own thoughts and ideas, and keeps it in their head. They may think that they are the only person who feels as they do. When someone comes along with the same mentality as them, that person is able to relate. When two people share this kind of bond there is an attraction. In Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, heartbreak is what caused Joel and Clem to erase their memory from one another. I suppose having memories change from being amazing to dreadful pained them enough to do something impulsive. All people go through heartbreak at least once in their lives. The greatest thing someone can do while in that situation is absorbed everything that is happening, and learn from the things that went wrong. Clem and Joel’s actions were irrational, and with their memories being erased they would of never been able to learn from their mistakes. Maybe if instead they waited a little and let time heal the wounds, they would have met again but remember their past.
