Platinum Thief Narrative Essay

Everyday, people come up to me and ask my story. Everyday, I tell them the same thing. “I am an old man,” I say, “I have no story that will interest you.”
In the years since the event, not once have I uttered words about the shoes. Not once have I thought about the misery I had to go through. Not once have I looked through any pictures of them. Not once. But here, now, today, that will all change. Today, I shall tell you my story. My story begins in the blistering hot sun of Peru. I had come from a small, almost unknown town in the state of New Mexico. Work kept me away from my home, but whenever I had some leisure time, I had tried to abscond there. See, I was a traveller, an explorer, an adventurer. I went to different places and discovered different artifacts. At twenty five years old, I had already become well known. People had known me as the “Platinum Thief”, a reference to my discovery of the “Glass of Platinum”, which was a mysterious artifact that caused the discoverer to get dreams concerning the future. Now, I had come to Peru to help one of my closest friends pull off a job that his very existence depended on. Once my plane had landed, I had set off

Before the incident, I had been a very alert man. Not much got past me. After I had gotten out of the truck, I had surveyed my surroundings. The truck had stopped in front of a large cave. We had reached at night, and the only light source that we had were the headlights of the truck. I had peered into the cave using whatever light I had. The cave had been a circular arc with a dark blue, almost purple outline. It had looked as if it was at least two storeys high and about thirty feet wide. The depth of the cave had been unknown. The light of the truck had just continued into the depth of the cave. It was the biggest cave I had ever seen, and I had been intimidated. However, we had had a job, and we would complete it … or so I had

On the 25th of September in the year 2015, my mother had given me a form of transportation along with my friends to the Cross County mall located at 8000 Mall Walk in Yonkers, NY. At the Cross County mall, we stopped at bus 25 and examined four women and three males, two of which had headphones in and taking pictures of the herbs. Once we got to a pretzel store, Auntie Annie’s, there was an elongated line in which we had to wait in since we were famished after not eating in school. When we received our food, we had noticed that all our orders were incorrect, causing us to consider the location untrustworthy. After we ate, we had a seat on the nearest bench, which is where most of the observation took place.…

Something that seems absolutely mundane to the average person, was utterly fascinating for me at the age of eight: shoes. However I wasn’t interested by just any regular shoes. I was only interested in my mother’s shoes. I vividly remember my mother leaving one day for work and me sneaking into her closet to try on her various shoes. She had a small rack full of sandals and heels, all of which I was mesmerized by.…

Once we had crossed the street and arrived at the park, Sophia lit up with Glee. She pulled tighter on the leash rushing me to walk faster. As we walked to the pathway entrance, My dad and I had noticed a large metal fence blocking the used-to-be parking lot all the way down to the children's park. We had not seen any workers to ask what they are doing, so we continued with the walk. There were a lot of walkers in Franklin Park.…

I decided to write a book review on "Story Thieves" as my Summer Reading Project. The title and cover were fascinating and gripping plus the book seemed interesting. Another reason was I was looking for a book that combined all thriller, adventure, mystery, and fiction into one. Overall I really liked the book and I would recommend it to my friends. Story Thieves is a captivating tale of Owen, an easily bored child, and Bethany, a half- fictional, half-human girl who can travel through books.…

The Image of the Woman Through the Neo-Realist Lens The image of the woman in Italian neo-realist cinema was controversial in nature and driven by visual pleasure and a modern attitude of sexuality. The image of the woman, though, was a dynamic component of cinema that did not remain stagnant. From the demure and homely character of Maria of The Bicycle Thief, to the progressive Sylvia of La Dolce Vita who carried an adventurous auroa - unafraid of spontaneous sexual escapades. The sexual expression of the woman quickly progressed towards a liberal expression point, which was influenced by western culture.…

Leonard Cohen once said, “any startling piece of work has a subversive element in it”. When people create art, they have a reason. There is a meaning behind every song, book, and art piece. Artists will create these works of art to be subversive, to send a message or use them to go against what society or authority figures think they are capable of doing. In The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, Hans and Liesel are subversive towards the Nazis.…

Hello everyone, I’m here to introduce to you my artifact that I brought to class and I hope this broadens your perspective on what culture I’m part of in the active communities. Today I brought in my running shoes that I had for a while and even though it may seem like just any regular pair of shoes they mean a lot to me because of what I gone through with them. You see, I wore these shoes when I was doing PE 3, which was a weightlifting class and they have been in my life through hard times when I had to do hard exercises and workouts during that class alone. On top of that, I decided to join cross country for my senior year because I had always loved running and finally had the courage to do it.…
