The amount they make is below the Federal Poverty Line for a family of two. The government should raise minimum wage because then low-income families will gain benefits, the government will save money in public assistant programs (Short, 2014), and people will be able to buy more products in turn giving money to the economy again. I discounted anything from the medical field because everyone was going there and I didn't want to be a lost number of people rushing to the same career, I wanted to be a little different.…

Why minimum wage should be raised to 12 an hour I know from personal experience that $7.25 is barely enough for a single adult to get by on in Huntsville Alabama where the cost of living is one of the lowest in the country. I made $7.35 an hour and got about 27 hour a week which was about 198.45 a week after taxes I made about 160, now you times that by four it equal to $640 a month plus my army disability of $133 I had 773. I used this to pay my $380 rent, $60 light bill, $20 internet, $57 phone bill not to mention Netflix Hulu and gym fee which total to 30.98. So the sum of my bill were 547.98-733= 225 left of 56 each week to buy gas and food no to mention if an emergency came up I had to compensate for them.…

The goal of a minimum wage is to help alleviate low-waged families out of poverty (Stigler 1946). The minimum wage does not successfully achieve its goal. Therefore, the mayor of New York City should eliminate the minimum wage, instead of increasing or decreasing the minimum wage. The main reasons the minimum wage cannot fully help alleviate those in poverty are poor allocation of resources, different ways wages vary, and the lack of increase in family income along with minimum wage increases (Stigler 1946). When making a decision about the minimum wage consider who pays and who benefits from the minimum.…
