Performance art is one of the contemporary art form, which origin in Europe. It determines as the process that artist using real world element as medium to express their concept, the elements including time, environment and even artist’s own body. However, currently, performance art usually involve with sex, blood and violence. It leads to the criticism from audiences. In terms of the series of threatening bodywork, performance art is always been considered as a controversial art form. Performance artist interested in put their body under extreme pressure, either physically or psychologically. The following artists are all involve in performance in their art and did several art pieces that focus on putting their own body under pressure. Firstly, while Chris Burden’s piece ‘Trans-fixed’ experiencing the extreme pressure on physically, He Yunchang’s ‘One meter democracy’ and Yang Zhichao’s ‘Planting grass’ are also face the pressure from psychologically side. According to what Yang Zhichao said, when he doing ‘Planting grass’, because of the painful, there was nothing in his head, it’s a totally vacuum state. He feels like there is nothing around him and even himself is inexistence. Both He Yunchang and Yang Zhichao want to get spirit redemption while they doing the performance. Moreover, the difference among those three artworks also reflects in what the artist want to satire toward the performance. Chris Burden’s artwork recalls the images of a crucified Jesus, satires the relationship between capitalism and religion world.
