The world is filled with myriad communities. When we consider community, many of us might consider stereotypical small-town living; that is, everything is local, everyone knows your name, and interpersonal interactions are face-to-face. When we think of community, we think of knocking on the neighbor's door for a cup of sugar. We might also think of the Utopian-minded communities spread across the U.S., occupied by people who partake in communal meals, share a majority of their belongings, and work on large gardens together. According to Joseph (2002a), community is about cultural, racial, or spacial boundaries that separate 'us' from 'them' (Joseph, 2002a, p. 1).
