There are people who support the defunding of Planned Parenthood, but there is no substantial evidence to support the righteousness of this action. It is well known that “The Catholic Church continues to frown on contraception” (“How”). This will obviously influence Catholics to defund Planned Parenthood because the organization provides many different forms of contraceptives, which would seemingly violate their religious rules. However, “Protecting oneself from them is more than just a good idea. It is an investment in future good health, in future relationships, in the ability to have children, perhaps in the chance for a long life” (Yancey 87). This safety is more important than religious beliefs. Abortion is also a big factor in the desire …show more content…
Another promising factor is that “A doctor who works at Planned Parenthood clinic... says that most of his patients are white, and he isn’t concerned that black women are getting abortions” (Day 62). Overall, abortion is a highly debated topic when exactly the zygote that forms at conception becomes an actual human being, which of course leads to the controversy around abortion. It is the idea that “Planned Parenthood has slaughtered over 4 MILLION pre born babies” that makes people support its defunding (“Stats”). However, science says that “When the egg and sperm join, a combination of genetic material is created that has never existed before and will never exist again. That single cell is the start of an individual human life... But just as a blueprint is not a building... a single cell is not a person” (Day 56). In this case, it's a belief versus proven science. Intellectually, the science should be trusted over the belief, therefore Planned Parenthood should not be defunded because of the belief that abortion and contraceptives kill unborn …show more content…
“Studies of Western countries suggest that few women who have had an abortion regret their choice. Although women with pre-existing mental-health problems can see them worsen following an abortion, such problems also tend to worsen if they carry an unwanted baby to term” (“How”). For some women, “It can also cause feelings of relief” (Day 54). Some people distrust Planned Parenthood so much that they do not care that Planned Parenthood provided general health care, arguing that “tax dollars already fund more than 1200 health center organizations with more than 8000 locations... serve more than 23 million patients, providing comprehensive healthcare, including primarily medical care, laboratory tests, x-rays, and dental and mental health services...” (Earll). Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz argues that “For many women across America, Planned Parenthood health centers are the only place to go for life-saving and preventive care...” because it is the only place they can afford (Roan). Defunding Planned Parenthood would do one thing and one thing only: cut many people off from the health care services they

Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that provides reproductive health services. Each year, around 2.7 million women and men visit these health centers, providing them with contraceptives, advice on family planning, services like STI testings, cancer screening and so much more. The organization has received federal funding ever since 1970, but pro-life activists have been trying to petition federal and state governments to defund Planned Parenthood, arguing that the organization is killing many lives with the abortion services it provides to women. But in many cases, abortion is the only choice women have because they can not afford to provide a good life for the baby. Pro-life activists have been trying to convince the government…

Likewise, Richard Hanna posted his reasoning against the bill shortly after the vote. According to this post, Mr. Hanna doesn’t believe in abortion, yet he believed that defunding Planned Parenthood wouldn’t bring abortions to a halt. Instead, he said that for this to happen, it will take a combination of laws, education and, access to birth control to eradicate the procedure (Why I Voted No on H.R.314, 2015). Congressman Hanna cited many statistics on Planned Parenthood, and said that he stands in support of women’s healthcare, since “if enacted, this legislation would force 2.7 million people to lose their current doctor,” yet he believed that an investigation should take place “to ensure that all medical practices, and procedures within…

Planned Parenthood is the reason social moderates keep on assaulting abortion, as well as contraception in case one is against abortion and contraception, it is not just about abortion. Also, it is the reason Planned Parenthood has turned into a talisman to one side, an image of what they fear most ladies controlling their own, particular regenerative predetermination. 66% of the 1 million premature births in this nation are undertaken by private professionals other than Planned Parenthood, yet there are no mass dissents and…

Out of the numerous services that Planned Parenthood offers the public, only three percent of all of their procedures are abortions; meaning that ninety-seven percent of everything they do is basic health care and other medical services. Cecile Richards, the President of Planned Parenthood, lists the statistics in her article, Today, We Fight Back, “every year, 2.7 million people come through the doors of our health centers, a million people participate in our sex education programs, and 60 million people get health information and other resources from us online.” Since the Republicans who drafted this bill often focus on abortion, they completely ignore all of the good that Planned Parenthood does for the community. Getting into doctor’s offices can be incredibly long and hard process, as documented in Cecile Richards’ article; she talks about a woman that she met who, after her husband lost his job, lost their health insurance. After finding a lump on her breast, she only found two clinics that would take her on as a patient, but they had two-month long waiting lists, so she went to Planned Parenthood.…

In a hearing, the President of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards, stated, "The outrageous accusations leveled against Planned Parenthood based on heavily doctored videos are offensive and categorically untrue. I realize, though, that the facts have never gotten in the way of these campaigns to block women from health care they need and deserve” (Dunn). Republicans in the House have threatened to shut down the government if funding does not cease for this group. Republican opponents have been recently called misogynistic by many of their Democratic counterparts. When asked in one interview by CNN television host Jake Tapper “if anything she had seen on the undercover videos revealing top medical officials with the nation’s largest abortion provider discussing the harvesting and sale of aborted babies’ organs bothered her," Senator Elizabeth Warren fired back with “what this is really about is about women’s access to abortion, and even though not one federal dollar goes to pay from abortions through Planned Parenthood, the Republicans want to find one more way to make it harder, to make it impossible, for a woman who is facing one of the most difficult decisions of her life.”…

Women’s rights has been an issue in the United States since the early 1800’s and until all people are comfortable discussing the fact that in many parts of the world, women have no say in what they can do with their bodies or how it’s treated. A woman should be the only one who can decide what is best for her body. There is only so much that women can do when the one place that helps women with checkups and abortion based questions, Planned Parenthood, is being defunded or closed down. “The House of Representatives is expected to pass a budget reconciliation bill that guts the Affordable Care Act, pulls roughly $450 million in federal assistance from Planned Parenthood and prevents Medicaid recipients from getting reimbursed…
