Planned Parenthood has been at the center of conversations across the nation during the last decade. Today, it is still a controversial topic, especially in regards to its funding. Although abortions are provided by Planned Parenthood, it is only a small portion of the services they provide. Planned Parenthood provides education resources and affordable, quality healthcare for women and men in the United States, and defunding it would affect the lives of the many who use their various health centers throughout the country. This is especially needed today, as we are no longer necessarily an abstinence abiding culture. As sexuality and comprehensive sexual education become more normalized, there is a greater need for it. Comprehensive sexual education is critical for teens to learn factual information on how to protect themselves and gain a better understanding of their own bodies. Thus, giving them the opportunity to put their care and understanding into their own hands, with the complete privacy that Planned Parenthood so strongly believes in. If people are educated on their reproductive rights and ways to protect themselves, they are then enabling themselves to avoid situations in which they can suffer from. Individuals can protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases, or learn more about who they are through gaining a deeper understanding in their sexualities. The United States is a progressing nation, and as it moves forwards, it’s citizens need to be able to educate themselves on their own health at a safe place.
