Planned Parenthood has been under scrutiny most recently in the past few years for their role in abortions in the United States. Planned Parenthood believes that a woman shouldn’t be judged by the government or anyone for the decisions that they make because a woman’s body is her own and she should have the decision of what she wants to do with it. This was the basis of the Supreme Court case: Roe v. Wade. “Jane Roe” argued the Texas stature that an abortion at any time during the pregnancy was illegal. The court ruled in her favor by saying that a woman has the right to get an abortion until the fetus has reached fetus viability. Fetus Viability is where the baby could live outside the mother’s womb and survive. This case has sparked the conversation, still today, about whether abortion is right or wrong. Those 100 more years may be difficult with the movements of states and even the Federal Government to defund Planned Parenthood. Those states and the Federal Government don’t agree with Planned Parenthood’s willingness to provide services for abortion and supply men and women with birth control. Although the government and many states have motioned to defund Planned Parenthood, they shouldn’t because Planned Parenthood provides men and women with access to birth control, provides a place for people to get tested for STDs and Hepatitis B, and provides women with access to an abortion whether they need it or they chose to have one.
