Planned Giving Case Study

Improved Essays
Planned Giving to an organization that is tax-deductible is a gift that is transferring one’s possessions to another. Planned gifts allow for donors to leave a legacy within the organization that they support. Common Ground Shreveport is currently working on a planned giving program for their organization, so that they have future financial support.
Common Ground is a nonprofit in Shreveport, LA who is working to make connections and serve the people within the Cedar Grove neighborhood. They are a small staffed nonprofit that has been working within Cedar Grove for over ten years.
Since Common Ground is not a large staffed nonprofit there would be connections made to outside resources. Lisa Cronin, who is the chief executive director, is a lawyer and would be a resource for the organization. Financial planners, accountants, other lawyers, and other resources would be external.

It is efficient and cost effective. It will begin in January with the board meeting. We will ask the board and staff to become planned givers. An organization’s staff who makes planned gift commitments send a message that they are committed to the purpose of the organization.
Common Ground will send out mailers, update the website, have a thank you dinner for all donors, create brochures, and host seminars about planned giving within this five month time frame. This information will be available throughout the year, so that conversations can be fostered about planned giving.
As Common Ground moves to a planned giving program there will be opportunities for donors to leave a legacy and the organization would have another avenue of income for the future of Common Ground and for the Cedar Grove

Peggy Fischer and Peter Smith’s superordinate goal should be to donate an agreed upon amount of money to MCA that both parties feel comfortable with. Peter should not fee like he is donating too much money to MCA where he will feel financially strapped going forward and Peggy should feel like she received an appropriate settlement from the original pledge where MCA does not feel like it is in as bad of a financial position that it is now. This donation should also help with the construction of the new building, but maybe the new building plans are not as extravagant as they are now. MCA will still be able to build an amazing facility, but maybe it has a smaller library, no café, or special events area. The museum should build a facility…

We spoke with someone who works at the House and she told us that eight families were there on that day. We were able to see some people and did what we could to help out.…
