Plains Area Reflection

Thanks again to everyone who participated in last week’s Plains Area Leadership Conference! I enjoyed seeing everyone and spending some time visiting and listening to your concerns, as well as hearing your ideas for the future. ARS has always had a strong group of individuals leading our local organizations. It’s obvious after reflecting on the two days of the conference that we currently have extremely talented and dedicated individuals serving in key roles throughout the Plains Area. I was impressed with everyone’s willingness to engage in the program and your desire to have a better ARS, strong Plains Area connections, and highly functioning location leadership teams. Your enthusiasm and positive attitudes helped make our time together

There is a stigma associated with attending Brookdale. It did not make sense to me, and I did not let it stop me. In my senior year of high school, I blatantly told everyone I was going to Brookdale and faced opposition. No one understood. I was in the top ten percent of my class.…

From folding up my naptime pad to attending pep rallies as my peers scream and shout seniors in the gym; is a great example of why I call the Southwest district my home. I have been blessed with the ability to not only make amazing friends and hilarious memories, but the opportunity to achieve great accomplishments with the assistance of outstanding teachers. The type of achievements that are not displayed in the typical trophy case; yet in a picture frame or have the ability to be wore. Though I may not have ever won a bike rodeo I have earned greater awards.…

My overall impression from this video was the woman that was instructing the experiment. She i bold with her plan and having specific to achieve making others to know how it feels and understand to be different. This was one of the most interesting videos I have ever had to watch her at Bay Path. Not only was it a serious topic that needs to be addressed more, it was conveyed in such a unique manner to really show how comfortable whites really get around the issue of race. By that woman speaking up in the beginning it goes to show how ignorant most white individuals are.…

    Road To Brown Reflection

During the era of Jim Crow laws, the African American group was severely oppressed and the movie road to brown was a great example of the hardships and roadblocks that were faced in this time where segregation and oppression were prevalent. My first impression of when the film had started was that it was going to tell the same stories and history were learned from our textbooks throughout school, but I was wrong it taught me the untold side of the civils rights movement and that Charles H. Houston was the most influential person to make way for political figures like Martin Luther King junior. I thought it was incredibly that I had never heard of someone who helped in such a big way in shaping how the American culture was formed and how it…

We did our group project over the Thanksgiving Square which is located in the center of Downtown Dallas. I had honestly never heard of it, but once we looked it up I remembered that I had already seen it in person. I guess I just wasn’t really familiar to its name or the meaning that it contains. On Monday we went to take pictures of Thanksgiving Square and we also decided who was going to work on which slide of the presentation. I was the one that was in charge of finding the history.…

J.Cole’s album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, both challenged and surprised me. Initially, it was difficult to understand what Cole was going through as our lives contrast so much. For example, in “Adolescence ‘03” Cole considers selling drugs because that’s what everyone around him was doing. Personally, it was hard to relate as I’ve grown up in a safe environment where drug influence is less prominent. Additionally, I was surprised by the lucidness of the album, as Cole gives full disclosure of everything he went through, especially in “No Role Modelz”.…

In the film Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, it has shown me how much young girls and women in worldwide are not getting the equal opportunities compared to men. As I was watching the film, many young girls are not getting educated due to their non-supportive environments where their family traditions are for women to be working for the family as they do not believe in women getting education, and as a girl they are to be married off to or sell their body to support family financially. Before I watched this film, I knew women in other countries did not get education because their family economic situations and unsupportive family for females in the household, but these ideas were just so normalized to…

    Land Court Reflection

Before entering the building at Three Pemberton Square where the Massachusetts Land Court is located, I had the opportunity to speak with the security officer outside of the building. Prior to entering I wanted to confirm that I was in the correct place, if for no other reason than to ensure I was not walking into somewhere I should not be. After explaining to him why I was there, he described to me that I needed to first go through security, and then take the elevator up to the fifth floor where the Recorder’s Office is located. Walking into the large building that Land Court is located in was not what I expected. The building was fairly outdated, and resembled more of an office building than what I had typically perceived as a court house.…

Vision is my inspiration. I wanted to understand how vision affects perspective and allows for every person to be unique, to mold their own personality, and to have an individual outlook on life. Now, most people take this to mean that an optometrists sole job is prescribing eyeglasses and contact lenses.…
