Plain White T's: A Concert Review

Improved Essays
For this report I chose to attend a show that featured the Plain White T’s. I chose this event because I wanted to see what was the difference between a local band and a band that is “popular”. The cool thing about this concert was that The Plain White T’s weren’t touring alone they also came with Beta Play and Matt McAndrew. I’ve never been a big fan of rock but as I researched more about the genre and all of its subgenres I discovered Alternative Rock. The event was held at the popular venue Tricky Falls. Tricky Falls is located in downtown El Paso and it used to be the Alhambra Theater. The outside of the venue is very nice it has a big cat neon sign and it resembles a palace theater. The event started at 8:00 pm but the doors opened at 7:00 pm. In the inside it’s very dark sort of like a movie theater. The only thing that is very visible is where the band instruments are set up. The band is from Santa Barbara California and consists of four members in the band. The main members of the band are Tommy Cantillon who is the guitarist/singer and Michael Cantillon he plays the piano. Matt Palermo is the drummer, and Mike Dyer plays the bass. They played many tracks, but the one that I enjoyed the most was “Heaven is Under the Sun”. “Heaven is Under the Sun” had such a great piano melody. Michael Cantillon is very talented pianist because he was able to keep the melody going throughout the song. Matt Palermo played the drums very calm, and while playing the drums he had a Tambourine sitting in one of the snare drums and kept hitting it every fourth count. It added an extra sound that the song differently needed. Mike Dryer kept on playing this very nice baseline through the song very nice clean and sharp not to much but no to little. The best part about this partically song they play was the pianist. He had good short solos through out the song and performance. Beta Play was a very good opening act for this

I think that this song was very different from the songs we listened to in class, which was kind of neat. There wasn’t a clear rhythm of sorts to this song. I felt like a lot of different things were going on and each instrument had their own parts going on. However, it all flowed together really well. The saxophone(s) and piano played most of the choruses, and each had their own little part of a solo.…

Summer Twins Review: A Dreamy Dance Party Kicking off Valentine’s Day weekend with great music is not a bad way to dive into the holiday, for couples and singles alike. This last Friday, February 12, Summer Twins performed at Acerogami, Pomona, CA, joined by Veronica Bianqui. The entire event had a drinks-with-friends vibe, framed by the venue’s exposed brick, low lighting, projected music videos, and a few heart-shaped balloons at the stage. The beauty of smaller venues is the level of comfort they create. Conversation before and after the show flowed easily, from excitement about the performers to stray cats and operatic voicemails.…

I don’t know how the wonderful music history of Memphis pass me by but somehow It did! I have always heard that Memphis is known for its music history, especially the blues, but I never investigated the theory for myself. The instructor at the college challenged me to write a paper about the history of the Stax Museum in a reflection paper and I am really glad she did. It influenced me to finally take the time to view the history of Memphis firsthand starting with the Stax Museum. The research, museum, and the informative information my teacher taught in class helped me to learn the original name of the company, showed me the good and bad experiences with the company, taught me the meaning of music terms in the music company and lead me to…

Twenty-One Pilots is a rap and alternative band who recently broke out with a big album called “Blurryface”. Their style of music is so unlike any other group that they were put in the genre of alternative because even though its rap, it is not just the average rap. Some songs are slower, and they don’t always rhyme. This makes them unique causing them to stand out among other groups. Their songs have a deeper meaning than most and more people can relate to them and that is why this album had such a big impact and lead them to a world tour.…

The planning and executing of special events requires the careful planning of every aspect of the event. “These steps include how to design an event; establish an organizational structure and budget; develop marketing and media plans, a sponsorship strategy, and a risk management plan; implement the operational plan; and execute and evaluate the event” (Rehman, 2005, para.2). Some of the various aspects that must be planned for at an event are security, venue management, entertainment, sponsors, speakers, concessions, and volunteer management. My two favorite bands during my teenage years until today have persistently been Muse, and Coheed and Cambria. These two bands have various similarities but are markedly different from one another. The two band’s differing origins, influences, philosophies, and histories have drastically impacted their musical styles and popular success, while their similarities have been critical in redefining progressive and alternative rock. Their unique styles prompted much of my own musical growth and preferences, as well as provided support during my formative years.…

Having reached the semester’s midpoint, two tasks were accomplished. Firstly, I directed Stephanie’s music show, thereby solidifying my understanding of studio roles, and gaining practical experience producing a broadcast program. Although Stephanie’s show exists independently of mine, it is important to offer assistance; without teamwork, no program could be completed. Thereafter, my broadcast group began developing our script.…

In Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World”, citizens live without individuality, intelligence, and emotions, all of which can be connected to the absence of playable music. In the real world, everyone is affected by music that they listen to or create themselves, but it is truly underestimated. People have the distinguished ability to express their individuality through the varying types of music in the world and how they react to it. Being a musician can challenge someone’s mental and physical abilities and, if they accept the challenge, can make them more intelligent and capable members of society. Music can also cater to one’s differing emotions and help them to understand their feelings and coping methods.…

The Super Fresh Hip Hop Fest was the event that I attended with the Philosophy 444 class. The event took place at the Lakefront Arena, where we were surrounded by people from the seventies and eighties. At this concert, we had the pleasure of listening to famous and local artists as well as DJs, who played popular hits. The performers were Doug E. Fresh, Too Short, Slick Rick, DJ Kool, Dana Dane, Roxanne Shante, UNLV, Gregory D and Partners N Crime. As we were watching the performers, I observed the other concert attendants and noticed some interesting things.…

Even though I could not see the performer because he was hide behind the organ, I could feel that I was putting a lot of energy in this piece to make it dramtic.
