They claimed that students those plagiaries ; alongside to the academic and legal consequences they face ; they are also not qualified for their future career because they did not fulfill the educational purpose and goals of their academic studies. This aim of this project is to investigate how much international students in the pre-sessional English course at the University of Glasgow know about plagiarism and what is their impression about the university regulation on dealing with students plagiarism. The vast majoring of the international students in the pre-sessional course are from outside the European Union or United states, were might be a different perception on the importance of avoiding plagiarism and different educational background on how academic environment deal with plagiarism. There was one open question and all respondents choose not to answer it. It was about giving the reason to the answer whether they answered (Yes or No) on their own personal impression about their capability of referencing correctly.
Discussion:
Our hypothesis was supported by this research as we thought that international student probably familiar with the plagiarism concept but not with the different type of plagiarism. International student impression about the university rules and regulation regarding plagiarism was also supported by this research.
In conclusion, our results showed that most international students in the pre-sessional course at the University of Glasgow have a good Idea on what is plagiarism except a small confusion on the different type of plagiarism. The short time and the size of the sample limited our ability to have a better impression to answer the research question. Further research might be helpful to get an idea of the students knowledge and perception on plagiarism and the efficiency of the current information provision by the pre-sessional English course tutors.
