Plagiarism In School Essay

According to the OWL ( Nall & Gherwash, Aug 12, 2013), plagiarism is a serious problem and it is a form of academic dishonesty which involves copying of a writer’s opinions or ideas as one’s own. It can cause bad results such as failing the course, assignment, suspension or even expulsion. If people do not pay attention to their papers, plagiarism may occur accidentally. To prevent plagiarism, many schools maintain the strong standards of academic honesty. Seneca College and Niagara College also have strict plagiarism policies. Both schools are similar in terms of standards, but different with regard to penalties and examples in their policy statement. Seneca and Niagara have the highest criteria of plagiarism. If students commit plagiarism students cannot obtain any type of academic advantages or credit is an offense under school’s policy and will never be tolerated. In addition, all students’ work has to be submitted by themselves because works may be reviewed for authenticity and originality utilizing schools’ software tools. When comparing Seneca and Niagara policy, Seneca’s plagiarism policy is easier for students to understand. Seneca’s three strike system is not ambiguous because the school suggested a specific period of suspension. Furthermore, according to Seneca’s Penalties policy, the school also shows the how to return to the school or how to deal with the Academic Honesty Committee about students’ suspension. Overall, colleges have a very strong policy on plagiarism and their punishment is also strict. This seems that North America schools value one’s copyright and students’ honesty. If colleges do not have the plagiarism policy, students will never or will struggle to figure out whether they have committed the plagiarism or
