To maintain this integrity, students are guided by two main forms of academic offences: plagiarism and any other academic offences. These academic regulations all play a key role to the quality of education students achieve, here, at U.N.B. Committing plagiarism can be a devastatingly innocent and, is always, an incredibly serious mistake. Students should be self-aware of all forms of plagiarism without prompting from instructors. For example, a first year engineering student may be receiving some help from a third year student in his program on an assignment given in physics. The advice on a certain problem may be understood through casual conversation and he may incorporate a modified version of this suggested method in his solution. The information relayed may not have been directly copied, however, the aid of the older student must be cited in this scenario. Any thought process which is not generated independently must acknowledge its source; regardless of its quantity or importance. It should be mandatory that repeated offenders should hold a plagiarism seminar at a local high school to help better inform students about the severity of various academic offenses—particularly plagiarism.
