Plagiarism Academic Integrity

Based on the information provided by the employee I would vote that the individual is let go based on his involvement with plagiarism. As a student at Western University, I am aware of how serious plagiarism is viewed. Plagiarism is considered a scholastic offence which is investigated by the university and can ultimately lead to expulsion. It does not matter whether you are writing a short answer question or a twenty-page research essay, plagiarism is taken very seriously and should not be treated lightly. While the employee was honest as to why he could not start full-time in September, this does not reflect in his academic integrity. I believe that his involvement in plagiarism would question his integrity as both a student and an employee. …show more content…
While he was honest in admitting that he was involved in this offence, he was not academically honest. He used someone else’s work and claimed it as his own. This academic dishonesty could reflect his integrity as an employee. There is no way to prove whether or not this was a one time offence, or whether the employee will be a repeat offender. While the employee claims that the plagiarism was inadvertent, there are multiple resources easily available to combat the issue of plagiarism. While I am not aware of the circumstances behind his reasoning for plagiarizing, I can tentatively assume that he did not put in the required effort to complete his essay. This would cause a reasonable doubt in my mind of whether the employee would put in the required effort to work full-time in September. In the professional world, it is paramount that deadlines are met and requirements are fulfilled on a daily basis. Therefore, I would conclude that because the employee has not met the conditions upon which he would begin full-time due to his academic dishonesty he should be let go from the

There are ways of handling this case differently from employer and employee. Let's start with the hiring phase: 1. The employer did not ask the candidate any questions about his ability to perform the job (asking questions can help you decide if the candidate is fit for the job). 2. The employer failed to ask if there are any issues with the availability to attend these days/hours and mandatory meetings (Addressing the issues of hours and days during interviews will cause fewer problems during their time at the company).…

I do think Lucy violated the UHD Honesty Policy because even though she did not directly want to see the exam. In my opinion, in the moment she realized the paper was the exam she should have put it in the professor’s mailbox instead of reading part of it. The UHD Academic Honesty Policy states in page 45 “cheating includes but is not limited to: obtaining and/or using unauthorized material.” She is not responsible that the professor forgot the exam in the printer.…

The difference between Plagiarism and Self- Plagiarism is that Plagiarism is a form of academic dishonesty when used someone’s ideas, words or images as one’s own without properly crediting the person or citing the source of information. On the other hand, Self-plagiarism is a form of academic dishonesty by which a student uses an old assignment or part of previous assignment and submits it as new work without citing the original work. I believe self-plagiarism is a violation of academic integrity. As a student, we are encouraged to make our writing unique, original and creative.…

In a professional setting, the fact that plagiarism was unintentional is not seen as a valid defence to a charge of plagiarism (i.e. copyright infringement). For example, in the US in 1976, former Beatle George Harrison was sued for copyright infringement by the publishers of “He’s So Fine,” a song written in 1962 by Ronald Mack. The Court found that Harrison’s song “My Sweet Lord” borrowed substantially from “He’s So Fine,” and held Harrison liable for damages despite Harrison’s claim that the plagiarism was unknowing and…

A common example of plagiarism is paraphrasing a work and passing it off as one’s own thoughts or ideas. This is an example of plagiarism because although one may have not used another persons exact words, he or she did take someone else’s ideas without giving them credit for them. A less common example of plagiarism occurs when a student submits a paper or assignment to two different classes, thus satisfying two different assignments without the permission of the professor (PPT).Other examples include, permitting one’s work to be submitted by another individual whom is passing it off as their own work, turning in someone else’s test as ones own, and blurring the line between one’s own ideas and words from another source (BSU). Plagiarism is a serious offense that is not taken lightly by the NCAA or the college that student attends. The NCAA is considering the integration of harsher academic integrity policies for the Division one level (Dr. Alexander’s…

From the moral aspect, unintentional plagiarism is not enough to involve moral issues, because, in the unintentional plagiarism event, the copycat is not the insider, they are also innocent. For example, if you accidentally upset a bottle of water and wet the book on someone else's desk. At this point, you can compensate and apologize, and that person may forgive you. But if you deliberately pour a bottle of water on someone else's book and desk, it will only make that person angry, and then produce friction on this things. One is unintentional, one is intentional, and indeed two different results.…

To be specific, in the section 4.2 of the SCCD of GBC mentions that “The minimal consequence a plagiarized… any evaluated material will be a grade of zero on that material” and according to the section 5.1, the procedure in case of suspicion of plagiarism is that the professor has to inform to the student giving her or him the reasons and later, give the student an opportunity to clarify the act. If not, the student will receive a grade of zero and one Academic Discipline Report will be send to the Director’s program. On the other hand, HU has more severe consequence as their policy points out that “Sanctions may include an RQ grade… and suspension for 1 academic year… intentionally or unintentionally plagiarize… first offense…or draft.” (…). Aldo, HU has a rigid procedure which implies the sending of the suspected assignment to the dean of students in order to ensure a fair process before the Administrative Board analyzes the case and make a decision about it.…

Plagiarism is a serious offense in universities, it is often committed by many students in order to pass a class they have been struggling with. Some courses in universities are challenging, and some students are blinded by their desperation to pass the course and resort to negative alternatives such as plagiarism. This disciplinary action can be prevented in many ways by students and professors. The main reason students commit plagiarism is due to the education system, it focuses on standardized testing and making students memorize large amounts of information to pass tests. The education system has changed over the years due to the change of government and reforms passed, but what shouldn’t be compromised is the learning experience and integrity…
