Plagiarism is a serious offense that has very negative consequences for the student and everyone else involved. The first type of feelings I experienced was feeling like a criminal and being scared. It is important because it will tell the reader which sources you used for your paper and where you got them. The reader will then be able to find the same source if he or she wants to look at it or has any questions about the source of what it says. One thing that I used to do in the past was to put my References in bold face, not the whole author and name of publication but the word reference. My instructor for my English course stated that this is in fact incorrect.
