The Place of Scripture in Evangelical, Liberal, and Neo-Orthodox Thought The authority of scripture is an important part of Christianity today, and it always has been. Scripture is the foundation of the religion we all serve. But, the power that scripture has in different categories of Christianity is different. Which is something I didn’t realize until I started really studying this topic. Vaguely to describe each one before breaking it down. Liberals believes in the experience that a relationship with God gives you and that the word of God isn’t any sort of doctrine. Liberal tradition was all about what you experience on the journey with God rather than feeling as if you have to follow a bunch of rules. They believe that true religion is based off of self-evaluation and knowing mentally how well you are doing. (Lane 2006, pg. 150) Instead of reading the bible to gain knowledge, and things to follow. Disregarding what doctrines, you follow or what practices you play during services. But agreeing that as long as people are serving the Lord in some way. It is enough. If we focus on the things we do instead of what has been done for us by Jesus Christ, then He came and died for us for no reason. That sounds a little harsh because I am so appreciative of what he came and did for me. But, I know works will never earn us a spot in heaven. In fact, the blood of Jesus is the only thing that will be covering our sins, to make a way to even be in the presence of God. We will never do enough or say enough to become perfect or sinless. But that is why Jesus came. So, I think as a group of people who claim to love the Lord and Jesus Christ equally and as one, our main goal should be to that everyone in our world has the chance to know Him and have a relationship with Him. Regardless of what you believe the most, as long as we can agree on the same mission, you can serve how you
