Pixar’s “Inside-Out” is an animated film about eleven-year-old Riley’s emotions and how it affects her everyday life. The movie shows how our brain is the hub of our emotional characteristics in daily life and conveys basic knowledge about the storage and retrieval of memories. In the movie, you observe depictions of the mind, imagination, and how our emotional memories influence our personality, formation, and the impact of core memories.

I believe Joy is the main character, or controller of Riley's emotions because she conducts all of Riley’s moves and feelings. The other emotions: Anger, Sadness, Disgust, and Fear, did not know how they could help Riley in anyway, leading Joy to be the one in charge of maintaining Riley’s happiness. Although the movie puts most of the emphasize on Joy, her subordinate emotions play a big role, as well. When Joy and Sadness are not able to get back to headquarters, they try their very best to keep Riley in place, especially during this vital time in her life. Joy is my favorite character because of her determination to keep Riley as happy as she can be. Moving to a new place is never easy, and Joy being there to keep her content is

When I asked myself what my islands are, I could think of family, friends, running, and fun, but it made me think of what my true core values are. It was an interesting glimpse into my priorities and to see how they define me as a person. Joy controls Riley's dashboard, but she doesn’t rule every emotion. I know I can not always feel joy, but I can control my other emotions to make me happy in some sort of way. “Inside Out” has taught me to be true to myself and don’t let other things in life push me away from who I really am because I am the only one who can control how I

Psychology is prevalent in everything we do, how we grow, and how we act. It’s the basis for how we think and how our body develops. However, it is also very easy to see psychological concepts in other people in our everyday life as well as in fictional works like TV shows, books, or movies. In Nicholas Spark’s movie The Notebook, based off his book, many psychological principles are demonstrated and easily picked up by those with psychological knowledge. Certain individuals must go through obstacles and the ignorant thought of the society they live in, to reach the contentment they desire. Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby both illustrate the protagonist’s difficulties towards their goals of happiness.…

During our life’s journey, our experiences and relationships we have with others are often the most memorable when we are able to see things in a new way. However, such memories and relationships we have with others stick with us so strongly that we will forever see certain people and events the same way, with an unchanged perspective. Monumental moments, such as a loved one’s death in “Violets,” by Gwen Harwood does not alter the persona’s view of their parents. In contrast, the persona in “Violets” is able to reflect on the memories of herself as a child and her relationship with her parents in another light. At some point in our personal journey, our childlike innocence is often shaken and we are forced to mature into adulthood.…

I believe that in the movie Inside Out, Riley does not have free will because everything that happened in the movie was a result that was caused by something else, and her will had no impact on it. Her mind is controlling her body so she doesn’t really make choices, it just naturally happens. Therefore, my stance is that Riley’s free will is dependent on determinism. Her views on her choices are controlled by previous circumstances. Everything she does from then on was governed by some natural law.…

Illustrating the complexities of interpersonal relationships, the XX released their self titled freshman album to critical acclaim. Among the songs on the album, “Islands” best demonstrates the complexities of interpersonal relationships owing to its lyricism, both minimalistic and introspective. Two lovers declare loyalty to each other while recognizing the sacrifices they are making; they are reluctant to let go of the freedom they cherish but feel preconditioned to be together. Much of this story lacking in the lyrics of the song but is portrayed using other means.
