The “core memories” are represented as orbs, and after a memory is created, the orb is then magnificently transported through a set of swirling and colorful tubes to long term memory. Included in this mental landscape are islands that make each person who they are. For Riley, it includes Friendship, Goofball, Family, and Hockey Island. The islands are so wonderfully animated that they resemble amusement parks, with many different elements in each island. The creators of “Inside Out” did a wonderful job at accurately depicting the brain in a simplified manner in which children and adults alike can understand. As the story unfolds, Joy and Sadness must travel outside of headquarters, and along the way they meet Riley’s former imaginary friend, Bing-Bong. He is a lovable character who is made mostly out of cotton candy and is an elephant-cat hybrid who cries tears of candy.
