Pivotal Moment In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding

How does Golding make this a pivotal moment in the novel and is it effective?
Golding uses various techniques throughout this passage to show it as an effective pivotal moment in the novel. He does this throughout the semantic field of the passage, however he best does this when he represents Jack as a different person and animalistic, separated from society and the rest of the group. This is effective because it shows the start of the decline in the groups sanity and link to home, hinting that Jack is slowly devolving to an earlier state of intellect, unable to recognize himself "He looked... no longer at himself but at an awesome stranger," Jack is shown as the beginning of this decline, and as he is looked up to by the boy's, they will soon

“He looked in astonishment no longer at himself but at an awesome stranger” a quote from William Golding in Lord of The Flies. This quote illustrates how Jack transformed himself to a devil looking mad men and how his defects are becoming more apparent as the story develops. The leader of a boys’ choir, Jack, is the best example of Golding’s theme “a defective human nature can only create a defective society” because he had a cruel desire for mastery, he was wicked and sadistic, and he doesn’t show interest in the rules of order established on the island. Since the very beginning Jack had a cruel desire for mastery.…

William Golding, author of books such as Lord of the Flies, The Scorpion God, and Rites of Passage joined the British Royal Navy in 1940. During this time, he witnessed gruesome sights and came to realize things about mankind that most chose not to, which left him cynical and pessimistic about the true nature of mankind. In 1954, Golding published Lord of the Flies, which summed up his feels about mankind; that it is inherently corrupt, violent, and animalistic. In the novel Lord of the Flies, the reader can see the boys go from children to savages through the course of the book. Five of the major turning points in their transition are the children painting their faces, killing the first pig, almost killing one of their own, dividing the group…

Marie Bogan P. 2 Due- 11/20/15 Lord of The Flies- Power From the beginning of Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, dominance and power was enforced, likely unconsciously. Supremacy seeking tendencies in human behavior determines the social ranks and interactions. The social hierarchy, littleuns’ power strive, and the fall out of the group’s order are all the outcome of dominance and power over a individual social group with no outside contact. Dominance is instituted between parties through force and aggression, submission, and behaviors in between. This (in human social groups, usually unintentionally,) is to establish priority ranking.…
