Former First Lady Anna Eleanor Roosevelt once expressed “Pit race against race, religion against religion, and prejudice against prejudice. Divide and conquer! We must not let that happen here.” Mankind have a tendency of saying things about one another that can be very rude and prejudice. Being that I am an American African female, I often hear that blacks are mindless and lazy. Lastly, I’ve often hear that all blacks love watermelon; however blacks are the total opposite.
Other races believe or assume that all blacks are mindless, when actually black people are very intelligent. Even when African Americans were in slavery they were still smart. For example, my great grandmother was born

Because there are a great amount of black people on government assistants and child support, black people are automatically labeled as a lazy race, when actually black people are actually hard workers. For instance, my parents would get up 5 in the morning for get ready to go to work. Once they get home from one job, they would probably have only 5 hours to rest before going to their second job. There were times where my parents would have 3 jobs each so they can make sure my siblings and I have roof over our heads and food in our stomachs. My parents never wanted to apply for government assistances such as food-stamps or cash assistant, they would whether work hard to get what they want in life. Thus, my parents are a prime examples of not all blacks are lazy. Our beliefs about certain race, especially the negative beliefs that we have been holding in our brains which may have passed from generations to generations has destroyed the mentality of the world today. In the past African Americans have been treated differently than whites. During slavery, African Americans were seen as half-human and half-animal. Then they were inferior to whites, and that they did not deserve to have the same materials as whites. Today society still sees African Americans as less educated, having less money, criminals, and there are still some people who believe that they are inferior to whites. African Americans are seen this way because of how they were treated in the past and the lack of education in the medical field.…

From #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation Book Review As a sociologist, I am continually interested in engaging with social movements that are happening. That interest is what led me to choose From #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation to do my book review on. This book analyzes the development of politics in the United States and further argues that even though we have an African American president, America is a racialized society and African Americans face inequality in three prominent molds; biological, through color blindness, and the culture of poverty in the modern era, all of which will be discussed further. The last theme in her book was regarding the media and its representation of Black people being an outlet for cultural racism.…

All over the world, people have stereotypes that dehumanize a certain group of people. The government can do all they want to make a certain group of people to be valued more than others. Society has valued or made to value lighter skin as prettier and better. People have privileges that others don 't have just by the way they look. For example, in our class discussion we had many examples about how young children were given the task to describe two dolls a white and a black one and everyone said good things about the white one but not for the black doll.…

“More African Americans are under the control of the criminal justice system today – in prison or jail, on probation or parole – than were enslaved in 1850. Discrimination in housing, education, employment, and voting rights, which many Americans thought was wiped out by the civil rights laws of the 1960s, is now perfectly legal against anyone labeled a “felon’’.—said Michelle Alexander, the author of the book ‘The New Jim Crow’. In her book Michelle Alexander evokes many important issues that are running rampant in our society concerning the unfair treating of our criminal justice system towards African-Americans. " The New Jim Crow" highlights the racial dimensions of the War on Drugs, refuting its ‘real purpose’, that instead of combatting…

Where a black man can be in the same area as a white man; where a black child can play with a white child. Gregory suggests that the problem of the lack of education is additionally influenced by the type of neglectance a child receives at home from their parents and/or guardians. Mark Martin is a student in Webster Academy that tells us that some of the parents of the his classmates are on drugs. “Such a homelife can further strengthen the attitude that school does not matter…” with situations like so, it is no wonder that good education is frowned upon in the black community (Gregory, page 45). The worth of education is not practiced which can cause a misleading perception on those students who notice just how important it is to have a good job and eventually get teased for it. This “acting white" culture is prevalent amongst African American students in public schools since the history of African American’s has its misconceptions that are still very much alive.…

It is evident that America is a melting pot and always has been a country with diverse groups of people. Due to the increasing racial and ethnic diversity, people are labeled and grouped into categories mainly for convenience and familiarity (Healey & O’Brien, 2015). Over the course of this semester, I have learned numerous terms, concepts, and theories concerning minority groups in the United States. Of those things, the most intriguing and eye opening information that struck a chord inside of me concerned the stereotypes that affect minority groups, in addition to the prejudice and discrimination these group members face. Before this course, I had heard many stereotypes, joked about and ran from them, but it never occurred to me how detrimental…
