At age 18, I moved to the city with my best friend, Michael to pursue our dreams. We became friends during a game of catch. Shortly after, I received a letter from my family. A group of dogs known as the German Shepherd Squad or GSS had attacked my parents and tried to set our house on fire. They are a group of anti-Pit Bull supremacists known to attack and threaten Pit Bulls. I tried to abide by the rules that were given to us knowing that they weren’t right but I have had enough. Attacking my family was the last straw. Something needed to be done.
I started to send out a message to other Pit Bulls to gather at the center of City Hall on the morning of the first Monday of January. In the message I wrote:
“All dogs are created equal. If that’s the case then why aren’t we being treated equally? Families and friends are getting mistreated and threatened every day for being a Pit Bull. Why is that we are treated differently for looking different and for our breed? We deserve the same rights as everyone else. Come to the center of City Hall on the morning of the first Monday of January to make a change” I wasn’t sure if anyone would come and risk getting in trouble for a protest started up by some random Pit Bull named Martin. On the morning of the first Monday of January, to my surprise there were hundreds of us. We were all here hoping to make a change and to fight for our rights. There was no need for violence. I fueled the crowd with motivation and passion through my speech. I had a dream and so did everyone
